Today I want to do something a little bit out of the ordinary. I don’t want to talk about my favorite foods that I would indulge in every day if I had the chance. I don’t want to talk about what I feel like I “should” eat to lose weight or whatever,  blah blah blah. Today I want to tell you my perfect day of food for me to feel my best. These are foods I eat on a regular basis, and if I were working from home, you can bet this is what every single day would look like.

Breakfast, 9:00 am:

  • Starbucks “Blonde” roast coffee (black)

  • Chobani pear yogurt with strawberries, blueberries, banana, and Michigan locally grown granola

  • Vitamins (L-Carnitine, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, and sometimes a few gummy vitamins if I’m feeling frisky)

Lunch, 1:00 pm:

  • Whole-wheat flax wrap with roasted red pepper hummus, spinach, and tabbouleh with tomato and cucumber

image

  • Parmesan garlic pop-chips

Snack, 4:00 pm:

  • Honeycrisp apple with almond butter

  • Dark chocolate peanut butter cup

You better believe that when I move out on my own this is going to be just about what you see day after day, so get used to it friends. My schedule is just so all over the place that I don’t have the ability to meal-plan like some of you can and do. I need some consistency back in my life; everything runs smoother when I don’t need to check my calendar 3+ times a day just to see where I need to go next!

I also just wanted to share this quote really quickly from Strala Yoga, which my love Tara Stiles is the owner of:

“Part of liking yourself is acting to change the things that aren’t good for you & believing that you can. Change your mind to change your life.”

Do you work better on a schedule or just by going with the flow?

Shakeology & A Nice Change of Pace

I’m writing this from a new place. Can you guess where? Probably not. I’m house/dog-sitting nearby and could not be happier. I have a whole, huge kitchen to myself. I have silence. I have 2 sweet, cuddly dogs. I have space. I am beyond happy. You’ll probably notice a lot happier posts in the next few days. Now you know why.

I know I totally missed the band-wagon on WIAW, but I’m talking about what I ate on Thursday. Oh well. I’m used to being behind the game.

Breakfast:

Shakeology! I got my bag of chocolate vegan powder a few days ago and have been trying out a few recipes until I found one I really liked, and I think I found the perfect one. If you’re interested in a sample, let me know! Or just go ahead and order some for yourself since it’s delicious.

Peanut Butter Cup Protein Shake

  • 1 scoop chocolate vegan shakeology
  • 2 tbsp. PB2
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 cup ice

shakeology

Blend & enjoy! Super yummy. Literally tastes like you’re drinking a peanut butter cup.

Lunch:

I made some tabbouleh with fresh tomato and cucumber and used it in a whole-wheat wrap with roasted red pepper hummus and spinach.

I also had an apple and parmesan garlic pop-chips on the side. SO good.

Dinner:

Luke and I had whole wheat rotini with tomato, onion, and garlic marinara sauce. We also roasted some carrots, broccoli, and asparagus on the side. Of course I had Cabernet as well Smile with tongue out

Snacks:

  • sweet potato chips
  • pineapple
  • frozen Chobani bite (raspberry with dark chocolate) with fresh berries

I also completed day 3 of TurboFire today. It’s intense people. You really need some stamina. Even though there’s no weights used, the body weight training combined with kickboxing moves provides for a killer arm and leg workout. I just kinda feel like Jell-O all over, but I’m not mad at all! It makes my body feel strong and confident. It’s safe to say I’m definitely a fan.

I feel awesome today. Good food, lots of relaxing, and basically no stress. And now (as I’m writing this on Thursday night) I’m watching Girls on Comcast’s “watch-a-thon week” and am considering doing nothing but watching this for the next 5 days. It’s a definite possibility that will happen. There’s also a good possibility that I may or may not spend all day interspersing this show with yoga and wine. I would maybe bet money on it.

This week is making me so excited to move out. I love being able to make my own choices without worrying about being chastised and judged by others. However, it definitely is more difficult to live on my own. I’ll get used to it. For now I’m just going to enjoy having the freedom and try to get as much relaxing in as possible in the next few days!

Do you watch Girls? Are you as obsessed as I already am?

Saturday Recap

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday morning to wake up and to be able to actually breathe! I was feeling ridiculously sick on Friday (flu-like) and still wasn’t 100% yesterday, but definitely better than the day before. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn’t come back! I absolutely cannot afford to be sick during the week. Even though I was feeling okay, I kept it low-key yesterday to avoid it coming back. So here’s what I did!

I actually slept in a little bit! It’s crazy that 9:00 a.m. is really sleeping in for me. When I was in high school I used to sleep in until noon any chance I got! I laid in bed for a little while, catching up on blogs and all that jazz. I really wanted to move, but I knew going to the gym wouldn’t be a good option for me. I decided to pull out this Biggest Loser Cardio max DVD I have had for quite a few years. I haven’t done it in a few months, and I forgot how intense it was! I was planning on just taking it easy through the workout to go easy on my body, but ended up dripping in sweat by the end. I was feeling awesome, so I figured, why not push it? Wanna see my cuuuuuuute workout attire when I exercise at home in my room?

Let that sink in. Fitness model material right there. Ignore the Jillian Michaels bikini pic taped to my mirror. She inspires me.

And check out that hair. High pony like whoa. Ignore my dinosaur looking arm. I was trying to show you how obnoxious my hair usually is.

I took my sweet ol’ time getting ready and honestly didn’t end up leaving my room until about noon to get some lunch. I know, I know. I should never skip breakfast. But I did. Sue me. I did have a delicious lunch though.

DSCN1737

Salad with cherry tomatoes, carrots, and some homemade dressing with a little bit of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and bread-dipping spices (cheesy garlic flavor).

DSCN1738

A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, made with PB2 and some raspberry preserves, plus some un-pictured hummus, carrots, and hummus chips that I snacked on while putting it all together.

After lunch and getting ready for the day finally, I grabbed a berry Naked juice and headed out to run a couple of errands.

I ended up donating all my clothes and books I pulled out over the week that I don’t use to the Salvation Army, getting my free monthly underwear from Victoria’s Secret, getting my free bra from Aerie AND spending my $10 off of $40 coupon, and stocking up on some brush cleaning spray from Sephora. I also got Gabby (the 4 year old I nanny) a couple of things for her upcoming birthday and stopping at Starbucks to spend some of my gift card momma got me for Valentine’s Day. Can you guess what I got?

So unbelievably good. I get it a grande with soy milk, no whipped cream, and an extra shot of espresso.

Then Luke and I settled in for the night with some Chipotle. Is it acceptable to have basically their chips and guacamole for dinner? I sure hope so. Because that’s basically what I did.

I also had a couple bites of my veggie bowl I suppose, but it just doesn’t compare. I also had some of this classy stuff.

I was asleep by 9:30 and feel great this morning. Score for 1-day sicknesses! I also thought I would leave you with this picture of the girls I nanny. The little one is Francesca and her older sister is Gabby. I talk about them all the time, so I figure you should see what they look like! They’re pretty darn cute.

Enjoy your Sunday, get some relaxing done, and prep for the upcoming week! I have a fun day ahead, so I’ll fill you all in later with a vlog hopefully. Keep your fingers crossed that my technology skills are up to par today Smile

What was the highlight of your Saturday? I was actually supposed to go to the Lady Gaga concert last night, but her whole tour got cancelled due to an injury of hers Sad smile I was so upset! I really hope she gets better soon though <3 The highlight of my Saturday was definitely learning that I get $200 back for those tickets though……

Love is in the Air

I just have something really funny to share before I tell ya’ll what we did for Valentine’s Day: There was NOTHING but couples at the restaurant we went to last night! Luke and I walked in and were being taken to our table, and I am not kidding when I say that every single table had a couple at it. What was even funnier was that Luke and I knew we were both thinking the same thing about how funny it looked. If you went out to dinner last night, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. Nobody probably thinks it’s funny like I do though; oh well. Moving on!

Luke wouldn’t let me plan anything last night, which was great. Since I’m with kids all day, I’m constantly deciding what to do and when since they’re too young to make a real decision of their own yet. When I’m with my clients, I tell them how and what to do. After work the last thing I want to do is make a decision of any kind. So I appreciated him making the plans more than anything!

He started out by bringing me roses to my door. Super cute. I really dislike flowers, but it was a sweet gesture Smile

Then we went to our favorite Italian restaurant (or I suppose favorite restaurant, ever) for dinner. It’s a local family-owned place. The best in my opinion! It also worked out very well, because I’m obsessed with their minestrone soup and I’ve been super sick since yesterday afternoon. Boooo. I knew the girls I nanny being sick would catch up to me. So I got a bowl of the soup and a Caesar salad, which I don’t get very often, but had a huge craving for it. They also have these garlicky breadstick things that are to die for. I need the recipe for those things.

After dinner we went to Wal-Mart to get some cheap wine to sneak into the movies. Keepin’ it classy. But really. Our movie theater has a bar in it and it’s like, $10 for a beer. That is insane. I will be drinking my $4 Barefoot Cabernet, thank you very much.

We saw Safe Haven which I thought was absolutely phenomenal. I read the book quite a while ago and was pleasantly surprised to find that they followed the storyline perfectly. I cried through a good portion of it. That may have had to do with the mixture of cough medicine and wine though. Oops. Regardless, it was very sad but then very happy and very good. Go see it. Now.

You want to know what my gift was? That I didn’t ask for? A KEURIG. I’m pumped. And yes, I will be keeping it in my bathroom so I can make coffee in the morning without ever having to leave my bedroom. Life’s good. Any suggestions on good k-cups to buy?

Even though I was half dead by the end of the night and could barely keep my eyes open, it was a great time. Hence, no post last night. I would have been just as happy sitting at home watching a movie and ordering pizza, but it was great to go out and do/have some of our favorite things. I feel very lucky today Smile

What are our thoughts on romantic movies?? I usually am not that big of a fan, but if I read the book and love it, you bet I’m going to go see the movie version.
