And now you know my favorite things. The end.

What do you believe in?

A lot of food and a lot of goals

Are you surprised that on a Monday morning I woke up an hour and a half after I intended to? Me either. Instead of working out, I played with my cat.

And on Sunday instead of working out I painted my nails. Noticing a pattern here?

I’ve kinda fallen out of the exercise thing. Ever since I was told to take a break, I just decided to take a really long break. That’s okay. After I get back from LA, I will be back at it at 5:30 every morning. Maybe. Don’t take that too seriously.

Yesterday was a good time. I had maple pecan oatmeal with a diced apple and cinnamon. I did not take a picture, because I was running late. Surprise surprise. My 2 year-old lined up our shoes like this and it almost made me cry because it was so cute.

Then we had a delicious lunch for those with very mature taste buds of green beans, apple slices, and a grilled cheese, dipped in ketchup of course.

After that we played inside and watched lots of Backyardigans because it was raining and who likes rain if you have to be outside in it? Not me. Rain to me means stay inside, read a book, and drink some tea. Or if you’re with kids, watch Nick Jr, have some fruit snacks, and twirl around in circles. Speaking of snacks, I had a lot yesterday. Like, a lot. I could not stop eating. It was all that petting the cat that worked up my appetite.

After nannying I went to the gym to train one of my clients that I absolutely adore. She is cute as a button and becoming strong as a fox. I feel like that’s not the right animal for that saying. Correct me if I’m wrong. I was starving when I got home, so I shoveled in my mouth the first thing I could grab. That was a Chobani bite, using a banana as a spoon, and a ridiculous amount of barbeque pop chips. Gosh, I eat like a child. I do not think that will ever change.

My stomach has been hurting me the last few nights, so I decided to stop it before it starts and have some of my all time favorite saltine crackers. And no, I am not kidding. These are the bomb.

Now for the really important part of this post. I bet you all want to know what my goals for my LA trip are. Settle in.

  1. Meet Ellen DeGeneres and give her the biggest hug in the whole wide world and try not to get tears on her shirt.
  2. Not sing “I hopped off the plane at LAX…” when I hop off the plane at LAX. And yes, I will hop. Ask Luke. He will be able to support that statement.
  3. Drink at least 4 glasses of wine every day.
  4. Take a picture in front of the Hollywood sign.
  5. Kiss Ellen’s star on the walk of fame. Who are other cool celebrities who’s stars I should kiss? Or maybe just see. I’m not hip enough to know most of those people, so help a sister out.
  6. Eat a really good meal every night. And go to brunch at least once. We love brunch and mimosas.
  7. Play a game in the airport during our 4 hour layover on the way home. Scavenger hunt maybe?
  8. Go to Disneyland.
  9. Learn to surf.
  10. Take a Pilates class with Miley Cyrus.
  11. Workout with Jillian Michaels.
  12. Run into Chelsea Handler at a bar and play pranks with her all night.
  13. Meet Justin Bieber so I can take him home to marry my sister.
  14. Meet Karena and Katrina from Tone It Up and be jealous of their awesome hair and bodies.
  15. People watch. A lot.
  16. Go to Café Gratitude, Pressed Juicery, Urth Café, The Ivy, Sprinkles, and Cheesecake Factory. I know, I know. I am SO original and not touristy at all. I think all we’re going to be doing this trip is eating.
  17. Have Ellen love me so much in her audience on Wednesday that she invites us back Thursday and Friday, too.
  18. Have Ellen ask me to work for her so I never have to come home.
  19. Win the lottery while I’m there.
  20. Do what Luke wants to do, too! We’ll fit in in somehow. I have faith. No sleep and lots of sugar is the secret. We have a large stash of gummy bears to pop as soon as we start to feel tired. No rest allowed.

You think I can do it?? Babe, we have a lot to pack into 3 days. Get ready. Carb-load now so you’re prepared. I am already planning on drinking more coffee than I ever have in my life on Wednesday morning and only stopped to switch it with wine until we come home on Saturday. Maybe if I send Ellen my list she can help me. I think I will.

What’s the most fun thing you’ve ever done in your life?

Mine was seeing Ellen the first time. I hope the second time tops it!

Coffee or wine?

I cannot choose. I just can’t. Give me your input!

My Ideal Day of Food + Giveaway Winner

I want to congratulate Nicole at Fruit N’ Fitness for winning the Natural Vitality giveaway! Nicole, shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] so we can get you hooked up with your gift card Smile

Today I want to do something a little bit out of the ordinary. I don’t want to talk about my favorite foods that I would indulge in every day if I had the chance. I don’t want to talk about what I feel like I “should” eat to lose weight or whatever,  blah blah blah. Today I want to tell you my perfect day of food for me to feel my best. These are foods I eat on a regular basis, and if I were working from home, you can bet this is what every single day would look like.

Breakfast, 9:00 am:

  • Starbucks “Blonde” roast coffee (black)

  • Chobani pear yogurt with strawberries, blueberries, banana, and Michigan locally grown granola

  • Vitamins (L-Carnitine, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, and sometimes a few gummy vitamins if I’m feeling frisky)

Lunch, 1:00 pm:

  • Whole-wheat flax wrap with roasted red pepper hummus, spinach, and tabbouleh with tomato and cucumber

  • Parmesan garlic pop-chips

Snack, 4:00 pm:

  • Honeycrisp apple with almond butter

Dinner, 6:30 pm:

  • Steamed, seasoned broccoli

  • Garden veggie burger on a bagel thin with lettuce and ketchup
  • Fruit salad

Dessert, 8:00 pm:

  • Cabernet

  • Dark chocolate peanut butter cup

You better believe that when I move out on my own this is going to be just about what you see day after day, so get used to it friends. My schedule is just so all over the place that I don’t have the ability to meal-plan like some of you can and do. I need some consistency back in my life; everything runs smoother when I don’t need to check my calendar 3+ times a day just to see where I need to go next!

I also just wanted to share this quote really quickly from Strala Yoga, which my love Tara Stiles is the owner of:

“Part of liking yourself is acting to change the things that aren’t good for you & believing that you can. Change your mind to change your life.”

Do you work better on a schedule or just by going with the flow?

Foodie Pen Pals Review!

I hope you all had an absolutely fantastic Easter! Look at the adorable kitchen stuff for my new place. I’m obsessed.

There’s been a ton of stuff over the weekend that’s come up for me to write about, but I figured I would spread it out over the week instead of having a ridiculously long, obnoxious post today. You’re welcome Smile with tongue out

First of all, I wanted to share with you the link to the article that I wrote for FitKit! FitKit is a company that uses an interactive lifestyle quiz to help determine and mold how to best live your healthy life. They ask questions about age, gender, sleep, happiness, etc. and then give you a personalized doctor’s recommendation to be the best version of yourself you can be. Super cool. Check it out and take the quiz if you get a chance!

Now I want to talk about my wonderful foodie pen pal from March! Lindsay over at The Lean Green Bean sponsors this wonderful event, so thank you! It was my first time participating, and it was so much fun. My package came from a reader Frankie, and she was SO generous. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Here’s what I got:

  • Homemade coconut granola. This was delicious. It was so good that I had a few chunks plain and used the rest on my oatmeal for a couple of days. I think it only lasted me 2 days! Plus, she packaged it in a mason jar which just made it that much cuter.

  • Coconut mocha k-cups. Frankie was so sweet and noticed on my blog that I had just gotten a Keurig and got me some k-cups! Some k-cups that are my new favorite flavor. All I can say is that if you haven’t tried this kind and you like coffee, go get them now.

  • A strawberry cheesecake quest bar. How did she know I had been wanting to try these things forever?! Seriously, so delicious. I’m just mad I didn’t think to heat it up in the microwave first.

  • Oatmeal raisin cookies from a local bakery and a dark chocolate raspberry bar. Um, wow. These cookies are now a favorite among my friends, and the chocolate bar was perfect to have with my wine at night.

She also included a coupon for some awesome protein powder online. Thanks so much Frankie! I am so glad I decided to participate in this, even though I will not be doing it again this month. I have my LA trip and was planning ahead and thinking that I probably won’t have time to. It’s an awesome program though!

Speaking of wonderful packages, I got a box full of some of the most delicious cookies I’ve had in my entire life from Caitlin yesterday. Thank you so much love! Made my day<3

“People tend to think that happiness is a stroke of luck, something that will descend like fine weather if you’re fortunate. But happiness is the result of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly.” – Elizabeth Gilbert

What was in your Easter basket this year?

There’s a bunch of random things going on in my life right now. This post is about to be a dump of quite a few of them, so bear with me and my scattered brain. I have just been running from one place to the next all week; I feel like I never leave myself enough time! All these thoughts and ideas pile up in my head and I never have time to tell ya’ll about them, until now.

Diet Bet

I signed up for the March round of DietBet through Fitfluential!

FitFluential March DietBet

Not so much because I want to lose weight, but because I know I have a couple pounds to get rid of, and let’s be real: who isn’t motivated by money? As I’ve talked about in the recent past, I’ve gotten into this habit of eating a lot of little kid food while I’m nannying, and if I have a reason to not (getting some extra cash!) then I most likely won’t. The bet requires you to lose 4% of your body weight, which is only like 5 pounds for me. It will undoubtedly make me feel better about myself, so why not? I’m sure some of you don’t agree with this, but that’s okay.

Bikini Competition

Remember when I posted about this? Well, I still want to do it, but I may just have a better idea now. I “met” a local blogger Caterina, who found me a website all about fitness competitions in Michigan. I was thinking about possibly working towards the one on July 13, 2013. It is VERY near my house and right around time the other one in Florida is (June 28). Thoughts? Suggestions? Help me out here!

Personal Training Ideas

I have had a lot of time to think about what I want to do with my future career, small and large scale goals. I just haven’t had time to really act on them yet. Once my schedule is switched up in April I will hopefully have all the time in the world (almost!) I want to focus on my health and fitness career. Here’s what I want to accomplish within the next year:

  • Write up package-deal programs with set prices and rules. I’m very laid-back with my training style, and I need to start making some money off of it! Although I do wish I could do it for free.
  • Start up some group-training style classes. I really like working with more than one person at a time and am not getting certified to teach full on group-fitness classes until I’m more stable in my career. It’s a better deal for people to train with friends/family anyway!
  • Get out some marketing! I have some pretty sweet business cards made up already, but I need to get some social media stuff out and start targeting Michigan, specifically the area I live in. I need a full day to just park my butt at Starbucks and develop a bunch of stuff.
  • Be at the gym more often. The more people see me and are used to me, the more inclined they are to want to work with me! I want to show the current members of the gym that I know what I’m doing and the new members that they want to hang out with me Smile with tongue out

Has anyone ever heard of influenster?

It is seriously such a cool invention. Basically a website that allows select people to join, review products, and have the opportunity to get stuff sent to your house to review! That is a very brief overview; there is much more involved. It allows people involved in social media to voice their opinions and help others in the community learn about current happenings and products. I think it’s super cool and was so honored to get an e-mail telling me they wanted me involved in the health and fitness portion! Definitely check it out.

Foodie Pen Pals

I’m sure that you have all heard of Foodie Pen Pals (developed by Lindsay) by now. I’ve always heard great things about it and finally got the courage to sign up this month! The box shopping will probably be the most fun part for me, but I’m also super excited to meet some new bloggers. Tomorrow afternoon/evening will hopefully be devoted to putting together my box to send out. Fingers crossed that I actually get it done and don’t get sidetracked like I usually do!

Alright, so if you read my blog at all you know that my work life is crazy. Here’s previous jobs I’ve held:

  • hostess at Red Robin

  • sales associate at Glamour Shots (LOL); with the occasional photo-shoot

  • office assistant at the board office for the school district in my area
  • dispatcher at my college police department
  • research collector/analyzer at the airport
  • gallery host/sales team member at a hotel
  • and now, a nanny and personal trainer

All over the place, right? Don’t get me wrong; I absolutely LOVE what I do. I love my girls like they’re my own and training gives me such a sense of accomplishment. However, the all over the place days/times are really messing with my mental health. I need consistency. I definitely want to stick with the health/fitness atmosphere. I had an opportunity not long ago to be a sales manager/program development leader at a large health club chain (don’t want to say which one yet), but couldn’t accept the offer because of my current commitments. That was really hard for me to say no. However, I still have the contact information of the human resources manager I was working with and am planning on getting back in contact with him towards the end of the month. This would incorporate my passion (health) and my skills/degree (hospitality), so it really would be the best of both worlds. However, I still want at least one day to babysit and plenty of time to work with my individual clients. Help me; how do I incorporate it all?!

Alright, ever since Luke got me my Keurig for Valentine’s Day, my coffee obsession has become ridiculous. I drink so much that I get jittery, but in a good way. I know that caffeine doesn’t affect some people, but I notice a significant change in my mood, attitude, and productivity levels when I drink coffee in the morning vs. when I don’t. For example, since I’ve been completing early-morning workouts this week (making my life so much easier by the way!), I haven’t been making coffee in the morning. My first calories for the day come in the form of a protein shake after my workout, and it’s just not the same. I’m definitely looking forward to having a little bit of extra time this morning to drink my tiramisu coffee in bed and read blogs before heading off to the gym.

Jillian Michaels Podcast

Friends. I think this may be the coolest and best thing I’ve discovered in a long time. As you know from my dream the other night, I’m kind of obsessed with Jillian. I have had multiple referrals for her podcasts before, but have never remembered to download them until a few days ago. Yesterday morning at the gym I ran 2.5 miles in what seemed like 5 minutes listening to her talk. If you know me at all, you know that my runs always drag on like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Not this time! I was laughing like a fool and smiling the whole time on the treadmill. People probably thought I was nuts at 6 a.m. I don’t even care. She makes me so darn happy and motivates me to keep going when I want to stop. Please give her a shot if you’re struggling in your workouts, life, eating goals, ANYTHING. She rocks.

I think that’s all for now! I’m sure I will think of more, so look for that tomorrow. Here’s a few instagram pictures of delicious foods I had yesterday to end with:

wf salad

Whole Foods salad bar!

cb bar

Well, officially the most delicious thing I’ve ever had. Dark chocolate filled with cookie butter. I need a case of these. I INHALED that in about 1 minute. No joke.

Give me some interesting news about your life!!

My Favorite Foods

How is everyone doing on this lovely Thursday morning? I am totally obsessed with the fact that there’s only 2 days until the weekend and that March is starting tomorrow. February wasn’t the best month for me, but I’m determined to turn it around in March and make it rock. I have a lot of fun stuff going on in March:

  • new families to babysit for
  • a 5th birthday party for a sweetheart I babysit
  • tons of personal training sessions already scheduled
  • running a St. Patty’s Day 5K
  • house sitting for a lady I workout with
  • not too many weekend plans yet, so lots of time to relax (fingers crossed!)

I also got a call from The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday letting me know that our show taping has been moved up a day. WOO! One day less to wait. So for anyone that cares, the episode I’ll be in the audience for is going to be airing on April 11th. No worries, I’m sure I’ll remind you a million and one times before then anyway.

This is going to drive me nuts. Yesterday on someone’s blog they did a WIAW, but a “What I WOULD Eat Wednesday.” I cannot remember for the life of me who’s blog it was! So if this was you, please let me know so I can give you proper credit. Anyway, they wrote about what foods they would eat if they knew nothing about nutrition, calories, protein, added sugars, etc. I thought this was a super fun idea, so here’s what I would eat if I had no knowledge or care for taking care of my body. Here are the foods that I would totally be indulging in on a regular basis.

  • Costco chocolate chunk muffins

  • Olive Garden white chocolate raspberry cheesecake

  • Margaritas x 1,000

  • Tostitos scoops, guacamole, and salsa x 1,000,000

  • Vegetable lo mein

  • Peach rings

  • Ben & Jerry’s cinnamon buns ice cream

  • Caesar salad

  • Trix cereal (but the kind with the fruit shapes, not those boring circles they use now)

  • Fruit salad

There’s probably more, but that’s what first came to mind. Are you kidding me? Apparently I would be 3,000 pounds if I didn’t care about health and fitness!

Since we’re already on the food topic, can I please just share with you my breakfast from yesterday? I had a bit of an unusual schedule yesterday, so Luke and I had time to sit down to a real breakfast together for the first time in probably like, ever. I got my Perfect Fit Protein packets in the mail a few days ago and decided to try out the protein pancake.

The recipe is super simple:

  • 1/2 banana, mashed
  • 1/2 tbs. almond milk
  • 1 packet perfect fit protein
  • 1/4 cup egg whites
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

YUM. I topped mine with some cookie butter, the other half of my banana, and a sprinkle of Back to Nature granola with dark chocolate chunks. It’s rare for me to not finish my food, but I still had a couple bites left. It was SO filling.

Black coffee and a mimosa (or 3) may or may not have been enjoyed on the side as well.

I also got an awesome workout in yesterday. I didn’t quite follow along with the Wednesday schedule for the 5 Day Warm-Up, since I was feeling like mixing it up.

  • 2 Tone It Up ab routines, 3x through each (took me about 45 minutes)
  • 15 minutes stretching

Since I completed an hour of cardio at the gym yesterday, I wasn’t feeling any more additional treadmill work today. I’ll hit it today!

Here’s the schedule for today (wow, this post is getting bullet-point crazy!):

  • leg/butt circuits at the gym + jazzercise class
  • training 2 clients
  • doctors appointment (boo……)
  • afternoon off to do some seriously needed work on the computer!

Not sure what the plans are for tonight, but hopefully spending some time with my little sister, since she was absolutely devastated she didn’t have a snow day yesterday. Poor kid.

What’s a food you would eat if you had no knowledge of nutrition?

What I Ate Wednesday….So Far

I’ve never done one of these before. I just don’t think that I eat enough exciting food that you guys would actually want to read about. But I suppose I’ll give it a shot! It’s only 2:00 p.m. when I’m writing this, so you get half a day’s eats. Better than nothing.

My morning started out with that workout, 2x through. Today was going to be a rest day, but I wanted to move a little bit. I’ll tell ya, if you want to tone up your butt, this is a great way to get started. My glutes having been burning all day, especially when I use the stairs. I’ve gotten into this routine of working out in my room in the morning and brewing my coffee while I’m finishing up. It’s so relaxing to have the lights dim and exercise and smell coffee. Am I weird that I think that’s fantastic? Oh well.

7:00 a.m.: COFFEE. I drink mine black. What do you put in yours, if anything? I used to be big on those sugary, fancy drinks from Starbucks, but now I can’t even stomach much more than a sip of them.

8:45 a.m.: Breakfast was a packet of low-sugar apple cinnamon Quaker oatmeal with a diced pear and some cinnamon sprinkled on top.

Looks prettier like that than like this:

Yes, that’s a Hello Kitty spoon. I bring these oatmeal packets and a piece of fruit from home and make them while I’m nannying a lot of days.

12:00 p.m.: Lunch #1. Two mini slices of pizza I made with the girls yesterday. You can’t tell, but there’s diced tomatoes and a little bit of spinach under than cheese. It’s so easy to make. Just a whole wheat crust with some pre-made pizza sauce on top, then add the veggies and a little bit of low-fat mozzarella cheese. Delicious!

And because that wasn’t enough cheese, I had a string cheese as well. I’m seriously obsessed with these things.

I’m about to go have another mini-lunch (hopefully with some veggies incorporated this time Smile with tongue out). No clue what dinner is going to be! Luke and I are figuring something out later, so I’ll be sure to fill you guys in on that tomorrow.

I guess my breakfast is kind of cool? The rest is just super boring. I don’t think I’ll be participating in WIAW regularly until I move into my own place where I can actually cook dishes that I enjoy and keep good foods in the house. That’s one of the things I’m most excited for about moving out of my parents house.

On a completely different note, my little sister was playing with my hair last night and look what she ended up doing:

How cute is that?!

And that! I wish I had the patience to have  my hair actually look good when I need to go out in public.

How do you usually do your hair? Mine is typically straight with a little poof in front or curly and pushed back in a headband. Ponytails give me headaches.

Room Tour Vlog

You guys. Please don’t judge me. I wanted to show you my room and didn’t realize what an awkward person I was until now. Enjoy this mess.

Moving on……

My morning workout was intense and awesome.

Since I train clients all day long and make up individual plans for them, when it comes time for my own workout all I want is for someone else to tell me exactly what to do!

My breakfast was also quite delicious. I had a light n’ fit vanilla yogurt with a small banana, strawberries, blueberries, and roasted flaxseed from TJ’s.

yogurt bowl

Doesn’t that look all patriotic and stuff?

I also enjoyed some hazelnut coffee from my sampler pack from my new Keurig!

coffee mug

Isn’t my mug adorable?! I got it at a craft show like, 4 years ago and it’s still goin’ strong. I hope I never need to get a new one!

The rest of my day has been spent doing laundry, cleaning my room and bathroom, calling some clients, training some clients, and eating Chipotle leftovers with Luke. My best friend from college, Audrey, is coming over for the rest of the day so we can get dinner later tonight with our other college roommate Erica later. Super excited. I’ll have a full recap tomorrow Smile

Some people say that it’s okay to have, eat, or do whatever you gave up for Lent on Sundays. Thoughts on this topic??
