Get It Done.

Hello friends! First of all, I want to wish a very happy 17th birthday to my little sister! She’s a gem. Here’s us skipping around Disney a couple of years ago.

I am in just about the best mood ever typing this right now. I just had a fantastic Sunday filled with relaxing, working, time with friends, and wine. That makes me super happy. No big St. Patty’s Day partying for this girl; I’m way too lame for that. Tell me what you did though! I love to live vicariously through others that are more adventurous than me Smile with tongue out

As I said before, I’ve been participating in Chalene Johnson’s 30 Day Challenge in order to give myself a kick in the butt. So far it’s fantastic. She is super cute and motivational and makes me want to get up and do something with my life. Score. So far she has had participants evaluate goals that you want to accomplish within the next year, tell someone about goals to keep yourself accountable, narrow it down to top 10 goals and one “push” goal, and start making detailed, yet simple, to-do lists. You can learn more about all this by signing up on her website!

Here is just a brief overview of some tips she has for powering through your to-do list:

  • Categorize it into things that need to be done “today,” “this week,” and “soon.”
  • Don’t write it on paper; keep in on a mobile device that you have with you everywhere you go for easy reference.
  • Write your “push goal” at the top of each list (this is basically what motivates you to do everything you do).
  • Anything that pops into your head, write it down.
  • Do 2-3 small tasks each day that move you closer towards your “push goal.”

Most of this is stuff I already know/do, but it’s nice to have a concrete outline to follow and reinforcement that what I’m already doing will pay off sooner or later. I did download a new tasks application on my iPad to get away from my planner that currently holds all my to-do lists. I find myself writing down lists for the week at the beginning of the week on Sundays and then adding in certain tasks to the list on my phone to complete during each day while I’m out. Why write it down twice? I’m wasting time that I can’t afford to lose! Although my Vera Bradley planner is super cute….

You guys, my life has seriously been so much happier and easier this past week since I’ve been consistently practicing yoga. I can’t say enough good things about it. Tara Stiles has really opened my eyes to a new way of thinking and I wish I could thank her in person! I love not only her sense of ease with yoga, but her way of thinking about life as well. She is just so chill and healthy and happy and peaceful; everyone’s goal I think! I am so proud of people who found out their passion in life and went and made it happen. I will make that happen for myself one day. Hopefully this 30 Day Challenge will help a bit with that!

On a completely different note, let’s talk about food for a second. As I mentioned before, I signed up for Fitfluential’s March DietBet. I’ve already lost 33% of what I needed to lose in order to “win,” so yay for that! I honestly haven’t been dieting at all. I’ve just been simply eating the foods that make me feel good and staying away from the ones I know make me feel like crap. That’s it. Once again, I haven’t been exercising like, at all, lately. So ya know I haven’t been burning calories in that department. It’s all the food! I always knew what you ate played a big role in your weight, but I’m starting to actually believe it now. And I gotta credit yoga and breathing/meditation techniques for allowing me to have the control to say no to those crappy foods. Here’s what I had yesterday (Sunday):

  • Oatmeal with cinnamon, a diced apple, and coconut granola (breakfast)

oatmeal

  • Strawberry Cheesecake quest bar (snack)

quest bar

  • Protein shake (lunch)
  • Popcorn + green apple sucker (snack)
  • Olive Garden minestrone soup, salad, breadsticks, and Cabernet (dinner)

Pretty good for a weekend day if I do say so myself! And you know what? I feel great. Now I just need to remember that this week when I’m tempted with little kid food constantly.

So here’s my very loose goals for this week:

  1. Practice lots and lots of yoga.
  2. Eat lots and lots of clean, whole foods that make me feel fantastic.
  3. Complete tasks on my to-do list each day and stop putting them off.
  4. Spend some time with friends and stop being such a loner.

Good enough for now!

And of course, a quote to start off your week in the right way:

What was the best thing you did this weekend?

An Attitude Shift

I had one of the best days I’ve had in a really long time yesterday. Here’s the breakdown:

  • 5:30 am: Wake up, roll out of bed (literally), brush my teeth, throw my gym bag together, and get my butt out the door to workout.
  • 6:00 am: Arrive at gym and complete intervals of 0.5 miles on the treadmill + 10 minutes of circuit/HIIT training 4x, for a total 60 minute awesome workout.
  • 7:30 am: Leave the gym to drive to work after showering, getting ready, and making a protein shake for myself before leaving. I use brown rice protein powder if anyone cares.

  • 8:00 am – 5:00 pm: Babysit my girls! We had a GREAT day today, including ballet class, reading books at the library, going to Olive Garden for lunch, shopping for new outfits at Justice, grocery shopping, making popsicles, playing games, and doing a craft. Everyone was in a great mood today. The day flew by and was just wonderful.
  • 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm: Luke’s house for dinner/hangout time! We (he mostly!) made a delicious meal of spaghetti squash (regular penne for him) with roasted vegetables and kicked up marinara sauce, garlic bread, and a balsamic/feta based salad. SO good.
  • 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm: THE BACHELOR. Only one more episode. Boooooo.

It was a simple day, but definitely my kind of day. I am always happiest when things go according to plan. Completing my early morning workout with excess energy was such a great start to my day. I’m going to try out this schedule for the rest of the week and see how I feel come the weekend. If today is any indication, it’s really going to work out for me. I’m just so exhausted by the end of the day that the last thing I want to do is exercise. Mornings apparently work best for me!

I also tried something absolutely fantastic today. I have never drank pop, like ever, but I tried out this lemon-lime Zevia today, since we wanted to make popsicles with diet sprite, but couldn’t find it at the store. This was the next best thing! it’s all natural with no added sugars and is absolutely delicious. Luke said it’s just as good as regular sprite Smile with tongue out

Ignore my creeping boyfriend in the background.

Today was just a reminder for me about how much a positive attitude can turn your whole day around. When you go into the day with a good outlook, things are bound to go in your favor! This is definitely something I need to remind myself of every morning right now, and hopefully it will eventually become habit.

Since a while ago I said I was going to do a Q and A each Tuesday, I decided to just tell ya’ll some random facts because I feel like it and I’ve drank a lot of wine tonight.

  • I grew up as a competition dancer, from the ages of 3-17.

image

  • I have been dating Luke since September of 2008.
  • I am still best friends with my kindergarten bff, Erica Smile

image

  • I am absolutely obsessed with gummy bears.

  • I cry, a lot. Mostly for happy things. Last thing I cried at was the Beyonce documentary. Luke laughed at me.

  • My 3 favorite celebrities are Ellen DeGeneres, Jillian Michaels, and Miley Cyrus.
  • I am so freaking excited to be a mom one day.
  • I could eat salsa with a spoon and pickles every day of my life and be totally content.

  • I get the same thing at just about every restaurant I go to, every single time.

Okay, so today I’m hoping to have somewhat of the same schedule I had yesterday. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I can stick to it!

Have you ever tried Zevia? Any other flavors you can recommend for me?

Big Changes

Before I get into anything, there are two things I really want to point out:

1. Olive Garden leftover cold mashed potatoes are quite possibly my new favorite thing, ever.

image

2. Chipotle. Is. Wonderful. Why have I never had this before!? Luke bought it for us after training at the gym, and I am obsessed.

I got a vegetarian bowl with brown rice, grilled veggies, some chunky tomato stuff that was surprisingly spicy, some corn mixture thing, and lettuce. We got chips and guacamole to split, which were equally fantastic.

Thanks babe ;)

Alright, now to talk about some new stuff.

I’ve talked on here a little bit about how I recently got a job personal training at a local gym. I decided to take a leap and put www.arealisticlife.com on the 250 business cards I ordered. You know what that means? I gotta buy my domain! Luke is going to help me set up the website hopefully within the next couple of days, so the link is going to switch a bit; just a FYI.

My business is called Shape Your Life. I’m offering personal training (obviously), nutritional counseling, and life coaching. Luke made up this handy dandy logo for me to use:

shape your life

I also set up a twitter account: @arealisticlife. Check me out! I also have a personal twitter, @allison_marie91 if you care :p

With all that being said, I’m about to start devoting a lot more of my time to blogging. My goal is to organize the shit out of this thing (excuse my language) so you guys know what to expect from my posts and when they’ll come out each day. I don’t know about you, but consistency is important for me. The blog is also going to start to be less whiny on my part (I’ve noticed I’ve been saying a lot of negative things about my life lately; oops :/) and much more focused on nutrition, fitness, and healthy living in general. I want this blog to me a place my clients can go for advice and to learn a little more about me, too! Here’s just a few ideas for topics I’ve been throwing around in my head:

- 2 posts daily, each at the same time approximately every day
- work with a program such as windows writer to make all fonts, pictures, links, etc. look the same
- link to past posts and external links at all opportunities
- take more pictures!
- Monday: a new quote
- Tuesday: Q and A
- Wednesday: a new workout
- Thursday: day in pictures
- Friday: a new recipe
- Saturday: a fun, healthy activity to try with friends or family
- Sunday: vlog!

Obviously I won’t stick to this perfectly, but I need some sort of outline to keep me sane. The other daily post will probably be about my day, my food, my workout, my annoyances (:p), etc. Basically the normal stuff you’re seeing on here now.

Just wanted to give ya’ll a heads up on what’s goin on over here! Thoughts? Suggestions?

What’s your twitter link? Do you have any recommendations of someone to help me with designing a website?
