TurboFire & a “Different Week”

Happy Monday! For the first time in I don’t know how long, I’m excited for this week. Even though it’s super busy, I’ve got a lot to look forward to:

  • Getting a week away house-sitting, starting on Thursday
  • New Modern Family episode, FINALLY
  • Having family come into town for Easter
  • Getting a massage on Saturday
  • Starting the TurboFire! program

Let’s talk a little more about TurboFire! for a minute. Basically it was developed by Chalene Johnson and is an “intense cardio conditioning” workout that is set to high-energy dance tracks and burns a ridiculous amount of calories. Since I am now a BeachBody coach, I obviously want to try as many of their products as I can so I can accurately give recommendations to my customers! My issue is that I’m really getting back into exercise for the first time this week after 2 weeks off and I still want to keep up with yoga. My plan for now is to do 20 minutes of yoga in the morning before work and do my 50-ish minute TurboFire! workouts each evening after work. Not sure how well this will work out, but I’ve found that I need to make time to exercise in order to keep up with it. I really miss moving my body and am dying to get back into it. My other option is to take my laptop to the gym really early in the morning (like 6 a.m.) and go in the exercise room with it and do my DVD there. That could work as well! I guess I’ll just see how I’m feeling in the morning and go from there Smile

I wanted to start my new workout program yesterday, but I woke up and was still pretty darn sick.

Instead, I made myself my first ever Shakeology with my chocolate vegan flavor. It was delicious! I simply shook it up in my blender bottle with 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk and it honstly took up a milkshake-like consistency. It was yummy and I can only imagine how much better it will be when I actually blend it together with some ice and possibly a banana!

Now I’m all ready to start up my new program for the next 20 weeks! Here is the schedule I will be following. We will see how this goes. I’m determined to stick with it, simply because I am told exactly what to do (exercise-wise) each day. It can’t get much easier than that. Better yet is that the rest day for the TurboFire calendar is Wednesdays. That’s the day I like to go to my slow-flow yoga class; perfect!

Becoming a BeachBody Coach!

Unexpectedly, I got a night in last night. I desperately needed it! I did not even come close to realizing how many things I had to get done. Luckily I was able to make a to-do list and check off everything except 2 things which I will finish up today. Score! I also managed to have time to make a little vlog to recap what I’ve been up to lately.

Andddd, some bullet points to recap it all:

  • I became a BeachBody coach! I’m starting a challenge group within the next week. I would love to get some of you guys involved, so just let me know in the comments if it’s something you might be interested in and I will send you some more info about what it involves Smile
  • I am starting the TurboFire program and taking Shakeology tomorrow. We’ll see how this goes!
  • I have enough yoga DVD’s for the rest of my life.
  • I am super sick and lost my voice.
  • I wear really baggy clothes.
  • I suck at making videos.

Saturday Recap

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday morning to wake up and to be able to actually breathe! I was feeling ridiculously sick on Friday (flu-like) and still wasn’t 100% yesterday, but definitely better than the day before. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn’t come back! I absolutely cannot afford to be sick during the week. Even though I was feeling okay, I kept it low-key yesterday to avoid it coming back. So here’s what I did!

I actually slept in a little bit! It’s crazy that 9:00 a.m. is really sleeping in for me. When I was in high school I used to sleep in until noon any chance I got! I laid in bed for a little while, catching up on blogs and all that jazz. I really wanted to move, but I knew going to the gym wouldn’t be a good option for me. I decided to pull out this Biggest Loser Cardio max DVD I have had for quite a few years. I haven’t done it in a few months, and I forgot how intense it was! I was planning on just taking it easy through the workout to go easy on my body, but ended up dripping in sweat by the end. I was feeling awesome, so I figured, why not push it? Wanna see my cuuuuuuute workout attire when I exercise at home in my room?

And check out that hair. High pony like whoa. Ignore my dinosaur looking arm. I was trying to show you how obnoxious my hair usually is.

 

I took my sweet ol’ time getting ready and honestly didn’t end up leaving my room until about noon to get some lunch. I know, I know. I should never skip breakfast. But I did. Sue me. I did have a delicious lunch though.

Salad with cherry tomatoes, carrots, and some homemade dressing with a little bit of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and bread-dipping spices (cheesy garlic flavor).

A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, made with PB2 and some raspberry preserves, plus some un-pictured hummus, carrots, and hummus chips that I snacked on while putting it all together.

 

After lunch and getting ready for the day finally, I grabbed a berry Naked juice and headed out to run a couple of errands.

I ended up donating all my clothes and books I pulled out over the week that I don’t use to the Salvation Army, getting my free monthly underwear from Victoria’s Secret, getting my free bra from Aerie AND spending my $10 off of $40 coupon, and stocking up on some brush cleaning spray from Sephora. I also got Gabby (the 4 year old I nanny) a couple of things for her upcoming birthday and stopping at Starbucks to spend some of my gift card momma got me for Valentine’s Day. Can you guess what I got?

So unbelievably good. I get it a grande with soy milk, no whipped cream, and an extra shot of espresso.

 

Then Luke and I settled in for the night with some Chipotle. Is it acceptable to have basically their chips and guacamole for dinner? I sure hope so. Because that’s basically what I did.

I also had a couple bites of my veggie bowl I suppose, but it just doesn’t compare. I also had some of this classy stuff.

I was asleep by 9:30 and feel great this morning. Score for 1-day sicknesses! I also thought I would leave you with this picture of the girls I nanny. The little one is Francesca and her older sister is Gabby. I talk about them all the time, so I figure you should see what they look like! They’re pretty darn cute.

What was the highlight of your Saturday? I was actually supposed to go to the Lady Gaga concert last night, but her whole tour got cancelled due to an injury of hers Sad smile I was so upset! I really hope she gets better soon though <3 The highlight of my Saturday was definitely learning that I get $200 back for those tickets though……

Cheesy Tomato Pasta Bake

How good does this look?

So I found the recipe for this on Pinterest about a year ago. I made it once and it was phenomenal. Then I lost the recipe. My whole family loved it and wanted me to re-create it; so I did! I totally winged it and made up my own recipe based on what I could remember about the original, and I think it’s even better now. So here ya go Smile

 

Cheesy Tomato Pasta Bake

Serves: 8

 

Ingredients

1 box whole-wheat pasta (I like to use rigatoni noodles)

1 jar red spaghetti sauce (I like to use tomato basil)

1/3 cup cooking cream (I use Philadelphia Italian cheese and herb)

1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

1/8 cup basil (If you’re using fresh, just use about 10 leaves chopped up)

1 small carton cherry tomatoes, chopped in half

1 mozzarella cheese ball

2 big handfuls spinach (You don’t have to add this one if you don’t want to)

 

  1. Cook the pasta. Drain and add spaghetti sauce, cooking cream, parmesan cheese, and basil. Stir.
  2. Gently stir in cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, and spinach. Sprinkle extra cheese over the top.
  3. Cook in metal pan at 350 degrees F in the oven for 30 minutes.

 

So easy! Something great to make if you’re cooking for 4 people or more. Or just cook for a few and have tons of leftovers. The leftovers of this are better than the dish right away, in my opinion.

I also wanted to share this article from AFPA with you guys real quick. It’s all about when and when not to exercise in the winter when you’re sick. I know that right now I’m really sick and am already planning on taking today, tomorrow, and possibly Sunday off from exercise. I cannot afford to be sick next week, so I need to use the next couple days to get better as soon as I can. Check it out! A (Sick) Day in the Life

Literally woke up to a white sky and didn’t realize how sick I was until I tried to sit up and see if it was snowing yet or not.

I’m very lucky to have a sweet boyfriend who brings me tea when I’m sick just because he’s a good guy <3 I started off the day with that, a ton of water, some PT research, and my morning talk shows.

Then around 11 am I finally felt like I could get out of bed to eat something, except I had no appetite, so a smoothie it was.

Srawberry Banana Orange Smoothie

4 oz. orange juice
1 container strawberry Chobani
1 banana
4 strawberries
1 scoop brown rice protein powder
2 pineapple juice ice cubes
4 regular ice cubes

After watching a little bit of this…..

….anyone recognize it? :p I was ready for a light lunch around 1:30. This is some BBQ pop chips, baby carrots, roasted red pepper hummus, and new to me hummus chips.

I just realized that looks like a TON of chips, but it’s on a really small plate. I swear! Those hummus chips were amazing. My mom picked some up for me at Costco yesterday, and I’m addicted. 30 chips for only 130 calories, and they’re great for scooping up hummus. Super simple ingredient list, too!

I needed a little dessert after that, so I had a small bowl of raspberry rhubarb crumble also from Costco! And get this: it’s healthy. It’s literally only made with raspberries, rhubarb, and granola. I swear it tastes better than it looks.

And then I happened to look outside and saw snow. A lot of snow. Encouraged me even more to not leave the house at all today.

Another reason I’m not leaving the house? This is what I look like. And I’m comfy as I can be and have no intentions of changing, thank you very much.

I have done a few productive things today. I did some light stretching, cleaned my room and bathroom, and have been working on training plans and am actually making some good progress.

Blank Mind + Surveys

I literally have no thoughts in my mind today. Weird. Nothing exciting is going on, I have the day off work, and I’m sick. Hence, me laying in bed all day watching Magic Mike, drinking tea, and working on some training plans for new clients. Excitement up the WALL.

So I thought it would be a perfect day to do this healthy living survey I found over on Carrots N’ Cake the other day. Enjoy!

1. What did you eat for breakfast?

I actually made myself something different for breakfast, rather than my usual yogurt bowl! This is a toasted english muffin with peanut butter and apple.

2. How much water do you drink a day?

A lot. I usually have 6-8 16 oz. waterbottles, depending on how intense my workouts are. I’ve never really drank pop (except for the occasional diet coke and whiskey….oops), so it’s always just been water.

3. What is your current favorite workout?

I love taking group exercise classes. Whether it is jazzercise, pilates, spin, bootcamp, or hot yoga, I’m obsessed. However, I also like to run outside when the weather is nice. And I love Jillian Michaels workout DVD’s. I’m very versatile :p

4. How many calories do you eat a day?

I have no idea; I don’t count. If you look at my last post though, you’ll see my new plan to get my body back in shape after months of not treating it as I should.

5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?

I am a snack-a-holic. Here we go:

- apple with almond butter
- trail mix (especially any kind from TJ’s)

6. What do you usually eat for lunch?

It honestly varies every day, from a PB&J to soup, salad, and breadsticks at Olive Garden and everything in between.

7. What is your favorite body part to strength train?

My legs. I grew up as a dancer, so I love seeing the definition in my muscles when I exercise. I also have super strong legs so I’m able to do things people wouldn’t think I could!

8. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?

My arms. I have a really weak upper body, and I get frustrated when my muscles give out so early on in a workout.

9. What are your “bad” food cravings?

A better question is what don’t I crave? I literally want everything. Ice cream, pizza, candy, french fries, frozen drinks, pancakes, everything. I’m human. It’s sad that that’s what we have become accustomed to.

10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?

Not unless you count the gummy vitamins I eat with breakfast every day like a five year old. I’m on a lot of different medications because I have bad blood and anything can interfere with them, so I’m encouraged by my doctor not to.

11. How often do you eat out?

Way too much. 3 or 4 times a week probably.

12. Do you eat fast food?

Not at all. The one thing I allow myself is ONE shamrock shake every season from McDonald’s. I can’t resist. I do love Panera and Subway, but those aren’t your traditional fast food places.

13. Who is your biggest supporter?

My boyfriend, Luke<3

14. Do you have a gym membership?

I do! I actually am a personal trainer at that same gym as well :) Come hang with me if you live in Michigan.

15. How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

7ish during the week, 8ish on the weekends. I think about going to bed as soon as I wake up in the morning. Sleep rocks.

16. Do you have a “cheat” day?

Every day, let’s be real. If I really want something, I eat it.

17. Do you drink alcohol?

I do. Cabernet mostly. Or a gin and soda. Or Labatt blue. Or skinny margaritas. So yes, yes I do.

18. Do you have a workout buddy?

Sometimes! Not usually though. I prefer to do things on my own, at my own pace, with no distractions.

19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a Healthy Lifestyle?

I have more knowledge about what I need to do to look and feel my best. I may not always do what I should, but at least I have that background knowledge now. I enjoy teaching others about living a healthy lifestyle and am truly interested in it.

20. What was the last healthy thing you did?

I realized that I’m sick and chose to drop all my planned activities for the day and rest.

Funny, Yet Sucky

Alright, I’m about to go on a bit of a rant.

I told myself last night that this week was going to be a total “clean eating week.” Wanna know how I started off? PERFECT.

- greek yogurt with banana, almonds, and oats
- kashi bar and apple
- panera garden vegetable soup
- celery and carrot sticks
- whole wheat angel hair pasta with broccoli, carrots, feta, and balsamic

Sounds perfect, right? Wrong. Because you want to know what ended up happening mid-afternoon? The girls I nanny for wanted to make cookies. That’s what happened. Wanna take a wild guess who ended up eating way too much cookie dough? This girl right here. Wanna know who may or may not have also eaten 2 cookies (they were small :p)? Me. That’s right. I didn’t feel bad after, but I feel so unbelievably sick right now that I cannot even explain it. I totally know that’s why, because when I even think about that little episode I get nauseous (spelling?).

I guess my lesson learned is quite humorous, because as I was telling the girls not to eat the cookie dough, I was stuffing my face with it. I was telling them, “You’re gonna get a bellyache!” as I was completely contradicting myself. In other words, do what I say, not what I do. Great quote.

So this sucks! Apparentely my body rejects sugar. I always kinda knew that, but this experiment was a great one to confirm my theory. I’ve never had a day (that I can remember) where I ate completely clean and one particular thing ruined my appetite….and stomach! I’m queasy just thinking about sugar. Like, I cannot even stand the thought of it. Maybe this episode will be good for me. Maybe I’ll remember this feeling next time and be like, “Allison. Dude. Quit it. Have a carrot.” Probably not, but a girl can dream, right?

All I want to do right now is make myself a big bowl of fruit and some whole wheat crackers to go along with my marathon night of The Bachelor + Biggest Loser + How I Met Your Mother. Some Cabernet may make its’ way into the mix as well….never said I was perfect.
