Quick Check-In

Notice anything different about the blog?! Smile A HUGE thanks to Jenny at peanutbutterjenny.com for working so hard with me, someone who knows absolutely nothing about technology. Still a few things I’m working on adding, but basically done. YAY!

Horrible Monday. Just horrible. Can we start over tomorrow? Excuse the lame post, but I’m just not feeling it.

The whole reason I wanted to post was to talk real quick about The Bachelor finale.

I did not want Catherine to win. I never thought she stood out and always thought Lindsay was a better match. However, when he proposed to her and she was shaking and he was crying and they were so damn sweet and the ring was beautiful and her dress was gorgeous and then the elephant came, I was bawling like a baby. Goodness, that show has a great way of making you so happy for those people but making yourself feel like crap!

Back tomorrow with something normal Smile with tongue out

Did you watch The Bachelor finale? What did you think??

Annoyances vs. Wonderful Things

That’s the best title I could come up with. Bear with me. It has really been prevalent to me lately that whenever I have something great happen, there’s always some little bitty thing that goes and messes it up. Usually I’m able to find humor in these things, since they’re not typically large enough to screw up my happy moment completely. These are truly all examples of things that happened over the weekend. I kid you not. I did not make one of these things up.

I ran a 5k without stopping. Now that seems like nothing for most of you runners, but it’s big for me. I did it outside around my subdivision and just kept pushing myself to make it to the next mailbox and then the next one and so on….before I knew it I glanced at my watch and it said I had gone 1.95 miles. Then I knew I could finish the darn thing without stopping.

But then, I got chased by a dog. No joke friends. When I was probably at like mile 2.4, I saw a huge barking golden retriever a few houses away. I ignored it and smiled because it was cute and I’m a sucker thinking it had an invisible fence like most dogs do nowadays. It sure didn’t. Chased me for a good .1 mile. Just wanted to play, but I was not about to stop because I was determined at this point! It only made me run faster, so thank you random dog. And yes, I shooed it back into the direction of its’ home so its’ not out running wild. No worries.

I got some extra cash this weekend. Three weekend babysitting jobs and two personal training sessions have left my wallet very happy. I had a great time with all of it, too, so the money doesn’t even really mean anything to me. Just an added bonus.

I looked at my ever-growing list of things to buy. Including:

  • k-cups
  • a new lunchbox/cooler bag for my newly starting food prep
  • a juicer
  • perfect fit protein powder
  • kettlebell and heavier weights
  • random things for my LA trip next month

I know those are random things, but they’re needed for me. So there goes my cash. However, they will all end up being fun purchases, so I’m not mad. I’m usually extremely good at saving money, so it’s really hard for me to buy things that aren’t absolutely “essential.”

The banana flavor of Chobani. Oh my goodness gracious. There are real pieces of banana puree in there. I am amazed.

banana cho

It’s all gone Sad smile However, I still have my typical peach, blueberry, and strawberry variety pack of a million I get from Costco, plus the random pear, blood orange, and lemon flavors I picked up at the grocery store.

Quite a few little play-dates with friends this week! As I talked about in my post yesterday, I’ve really lost contact with a lot of people who I used to be very close with in my life. I’m trying this whole “socializing” thing out again, and I’m actually super pumped.

I’ve had opportunities to babysit during these times. I really just need to learn to say no sometimes. If I already have plans made with friends, I do not need to cancel them every time if I am asked to babysit. I am allowed to say no, and I’m constantly reminding myself of this.

There’s only one more episode of The Bachelor before the finale! I am so excited for the finale episode. I always settle in with my bottle of wine and smile the entire time I think.

The Bachelor is almost over Sad smile However, I’ll have some more free time, which is always desperately needed. Is it pathetic that I consider watching this show something that I need to do?

I had the weirdest, best dream I’ve ever had. Now you guys totally can’t judge me on this one. Just go with the flow. I never remember my dreams, so you know it’s something fantastic when I do. Long story short, I dreamed that Jillian Michaels told me she loved me! She was in my bedroom telling me how she wanted me to come to LA to be there with her and her kids and wanted to take me to Punta Cana with her and her family. We talked for like, ever in my room and then we flew to LA together. There were a ton more details, but I’m ridiculously too embarrassed to type them out, haha! I think this happened because I was thinking about vacationing with families I nanny for before I fell asleep last night, and I guess it’s kinda similar? So Jillian, if you ever read this, I love you more. And I will come live in your home and be the best roommate in the world<3

It makes me sad every time I look at her, because I want her body. Goodness, that woman is a machine. My new mantra is WWJD: What Would Jillian Do? Not even kidding. This is implemented immediately.

Onto a new topic. As you all are reading this, bright and early on a Monday morning, I’m at the gym (hopefully) completing my workout and starting with this whole “work out at the same time every day” thing. I’m hoping this gives me some consistency and peace. It will also give me some much needed free time to relax and play catch-up in the evenings. Hopefully this routine will work out and make things a bit easier for me! Fingers crossed.

I usually post a quote on Mondays, and today I’m giving you one that I found on Kate’s blog. I fell in love with it and want to read it every single morning.

Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough. – Oprah Winfrey

What’s the strangest and/or best dream that you can remember?

So Why Are You Doing It?

I’m anticipating  a lot of questions about why I’m choosing to compete in the Fitness Universe competition this upcoming June. I thought I would just beat ya to it and type out the answers to some of the most common questions.

&#8230;Weird day.

  1. Are you trying to lose weight? No. Not at all. I’ve really gotten off track with my workouts lately, and I truly just want a reason to keep myself accountable for exercising and taking care of my body. Yes, I want to clean up my diet, and if some pounds drop in the process so be it. I have gained a few pounds recently, and I want to feel comfortable in my clothes again!
  2. How did you find out about the competition? Through Karena and Katrina at www.toneitup.com! You’ve probably heard me preach about them before, and I’ll keep doing it. I just adore those two girls.
  3. How will you fit this into your schedule? Great question. I have no idea! But I am determined to make it work. Now that I’ve put it out there, it’s too late to back down now! Some steps I’m going to take are to wake up a half hour earlier each morning (5:30 am), complete strength training routines at home while watching my nightly TV shows whenever possible, meal prep on the weekends to avoid breakdowns during the week, and track my progress via the TIU app.

Barney: And stop shouting! You&#8217;re scaring Cottontail.Ted: You&#8230; named the rabbit?Barney: You took longer to get here than I thought, we bonded, I&#8217;m keeping her.<br />
     How I Met Your Mother 6.05 - &#8220;Architect of Destruction&#8221;

  1. How far away is the competition? 121 days (June 27, 2013).
  2. Is your blog going to turn into a strict recap of your training? No way! I’m going to be posting a weekly schedule of workouts and nutrition tips each Sunday in case anyone wants to follow along with me, but other than that everything will be running as it always has Smile
  3. Is this a bodybuilding competition? Not at all. The goal is to be confident and fit in a bikini. That’s it. The bodybuilding competition is something completely separate. I’m going for the long and lean look, haha.

If there’s anything else you can think of, please leave it in the comments below! I’ve been getting some really awesome support from this community, and I am extremely grateful for that. You guys rock.

On a side note, who watched The Bachelor last night?! Holy crap! Ashlee was piiiiiiiiissed. I’m going for Lindsay now. Thoughts?

Last week I asked you guys to submit any questions that you have for me for me to answer this week. Let’s be honest, sometimes it’s difficult to come up with blogging topics. It’s also difficult to think of something to write about sometimes that other people can relate to. So I figured, why not talk about what you guys want to hear? I know that I love finding out new fun facts about fellow bloggers. It makes me realize how similar I am to a lot of you and actually challenges my way of thinking. So these questions were submitted to me in the comments, via e-mail, via message, etc. I’m keeping it anonymous for the sake of well, just being anonymous. And if you have any questions, leave them in the comments or e-mail me at [email protected] and I’ll post the answers next week Smile

  • If you could vacation anywhere, where would it be?

I have always loved cruises. My family used to go on them a lot when I was younger. I love how you literally just get to be on this big, moving boat of fun. The dinners are amazing and are “free” at the time. The entertainment is phenomenal. AND you get to go to a bunch of beautiful islands for just long enough to get a taste of it without getting bored. I have met such great people on cruises I’ve been on before. I haven’t been on a cruise since I’ve been 21 and I’ve never been on one with Luke, so that’s my next goal. Although Los Angeles in April is going to be a pretty fantastic vacation, too.

  • If you could pick any other name for yourself, what would it be and why?

This is such a great question. I totally used to watch So Little Time with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Their names in that show were Chloe and Rylie. Ever since that I have wanted to be named Rylie. I suppose I’ll settle for naming my first baby girl that instead. You think I’m kidding, but I’m totally serious. Rylie Marie. That’s her name.

  • What does a typical day in your life look like?

I have two different types of day pretty much: nanny day or gym day. Weekends don’t count; my weekends are all over the place haha. So here’s what a nannying day looks like:

6:00 am: wake up and do about a half hour of strength training routines

6:45 am: shower and get ready

7:30 am: leave for work

8:00 am – 5:00 pm: nanny (take the girls to school, make lunch, play, basically all the typical things you do with a 2 and 4 year old)

5:30 pm: get to the gym and workout, usually an hour or so of cardio

7:00 pm: get home, shower again (yuck), and eat dinner

8:00 pm: watch my shows, work on client training plans, and prep stuff for the next day

And here’s a gym day:

7:00 am: wake up and do about a half hour of strength training routines

8:00 am: get to the gym and check people in for the jazzercise class

8:30 am – 9:30 am: jazzercise

11:00 am – 12:00 pm: train client

12:00 pm – 4:00 pm: work the desk at the gym

4:00 pm – 5:00 pm: train client

6:00 pm: dinner with Luke and chill with him for the night

Of course I train clients at other random times throughout the week, but in a nutshell that’s my exhilarating life!

  • If you could have dinner with any person in the world, who would it be?

Ellen DeGeneres. No questions asked.

  • What was your major in college?

I got my B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management with an emphasis in event planning and a minor in business. That’s a mouthful, yeah? I actually started out as a dance major, but soon realized that there was a very slim chance I could make a career out of it. Now I’m regretting my decision, because I’m working in the health and fitness field anyway and not using my degree. Oh well, you live and you learn. But for any of you who haven’t gone to college yet, here’s my words of wisdom: DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE. That is all.

Yup, college days. Oh boy. And yes, my hair used to be super dark!

  • How did you and Luke meet?

Ooh this is a good one! So he was actually really good friends with my best friend in high school. I had seen him all around school, but had never talked to him because I thought he was weird and annoying, haha! When we were juniors in high school, we were both at a football game and some random guy was trying to hit on me and be all over me. Luke somehow caught up on signals that I was telling this guy, “Get the hell away from me,” and he really just like walked over and grabbed my hand! It was too cute. We hung out together with our group of friends all night, and he just kissed me at the end of the night! We hung out for probably about a month after that and then started dating, and here we are Smile

From then to now. We are such babies in the first picture!

  • What do you do in your spare time?

I’m going to be totally honest with you. I love to watch TV. It’s a problem. I also have recently started to love using my foam roller while I watch TV. I really like to blog. I read a lot of books. I research places to live. I organize. I work a lot on my laptop, on training plans, web design, researching places to live, PT jobs, etc. I spend time with my sisters. Nothing too crazy or out of the ordinary! Oh, I like to bake when I can, too Smile with tongue out

  • Where do you live?

I live in southeast Michigan with my parents. I moved back with them after I graduated college and am definitely actively looking for my own place to live.

Isn’t my mom beautiful?! I hope I look half as good as she does at her age.

There you have it! I would love to hear you answer any of the above questions in the comments below and submit something new for next week.

And I just gotta say it:

Have an amazing Tuesday!

Are you giving up anything or making any changes in your life for Lent? My goal is to get my eating habits under control. I’ll go into that in more detail later.

Quick Check-In

Hi friends! I just want to tell you all something: I really like blogging. I just worked 11 hours and all I wanted to do was come home, have some wine, blog, and watch The Bachelor. I’m also getting some of my Spice Up Your Life challenge done and organizing my clothes during the episode. Multi-tasking at its’ finest! I’m SO crossing my fingers Tierra goes home tonight. My goodness, I don’t know if I can stand another week with that girl. My favorite right now is Lesley. I could totally see those two ending up together.

sean and lesley

Back to my love for blogging. I feel like I can relate to you guys so much. Honestly, I have some pretty great friends in my life, but so many people on here are going through (or have gone through) some of the same issues that I have. It makes me feel like less of a fool and less crazy and less alone. So thank you! You all rock.

Also, if you have any questions for me tomorrow leave them in a comment! I’ll be doing a Q&A tomorrow if anyone cares; probably not, but we’ll give it a shot Smile with tongue out

Enjoy your evening!<3

Let’s Have a Little Fun…..Todaaaaay

Do you get it?? I hope you do. And if you don’t understand what that’s in reference to, I’m about to tell you anyway. It’s the Ellen theme song. Wanna know why? Do you?

Now this may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but you just don’t understand by love for Ellen DeGeneres yet. I have been watching her show since the very beginning, and I truly don’t think I have ever missed an episode. I remember when my mom and I used to record episodes on our VCR! She is just such a positive spirit and brings light to my life every single day. I wish I could be her best friend. Ellen, if you’re reading this, I’m more than willing to come live with you and Portia and clean your house and take care of everything. You don’t even have to pay me! Smile with tongue out

My mom and I actually had the chance to go to a taping back in February of 2010, and I can honestly say that it was the best day of my life. I think I smiled consistently for the entire 1 1/2 hours. At one point I was so excited and jumping up and down that I cut my mom’s hand with my ring and it was bleeding bad enough that the staff had to come give her a band-aid! (Sorry, mom Smile with tongue out) My mom also said it was the best day of her life, “over the birth of her 4 daughters and her own wedding day.” Safe to say that going to see Ellen is a blast. We still have our episode on our ti-vo; and yes, you can definitely see us in the audience. We were right on the end of the “dance aisle!”

So when Tara from the Ellen show called me this afternoon, I’m pretty sure I almost caused a car accident and told the poor girl I love her. I was SO excited. I’m bringing Luke as my guest and we’re planning on staying a couple of days in LA to see the city and have our own mini-vacation. The actual taping is April 11th Open-mouthed smile I could honestly care less about who is on the show; I just want to see Ellen!

I’ll definitely give more details when I have them, but for now I need to hop on the internet and look up a cheap place to stay and some flight options. So exciting! I already decided to make a video and tell Ellen how excited I am to come. Maybe I’ll get lucky and she’ll talk to me. Omgomgomgomgomgomgomg. I grin from ear to ear just thinking about it.

So if anyone is from the LA area, you should try to go to a taping that day and we can have the best day ever! Now I’m headed back to my Cabernet and sweet-tart hearts and settling in for some Pretty Little Liars, New Girl, and The Bachelor. What a great day. I hope your day was better!

sweet tarts

What has been the best day of your life so far?

Ask Away!

Thanks for all your well wishes about my crappy day yesterday Smile

Last night helped. It was filled with exactly what I predicted: some Cabernet, some Bachelor (oh heyyyy Sean Lowe Smile with tongue out), and some cheerios. Yes, that was my choice for dinner last night. My head was pounding and I wanted to put no effort what-so-ever into a meal. I had an apple too if that counts for anything.

Moving on……

I’m going to start up somewhat of a “Question and Answer” ordeal on Tuesdays. Since this is the first time, I’m going to start it out with this survey, but I would love, love, LOVE, if you guys submitted questions for me to answer next week! Also, any suggestions for a catchy lil title for this? Let me know Smile Jeez, I use smiley faces way too much. I feel mean if I don’t sometimes. I fall into that pattern texting too; gotta stop.

  • What is on your desktop wallpaper?

Okay, not even kidding. It was a cat wearing this ridiculous hat for like, a year. But since I updated all the stuff on my laptop this past weekend, I have Bing now and my background changes every day. Kinda cool, but I miss my cat. And now I can’t find the picture anymore Sad smile

  • What is your favorite zoo animal?

Sharks! Or seals if there’s so salt-water tank.

  • What was your favorite toy as a child?

Polly Pockets.

polly pocket

  • What kind of hairstyle do you have?

Curly curly curly. My hair is just a bunch of crazy curls if I just let it air dry after showering, which is exactly what I did today.

  • What is on the shirt you’re wearing right now?

An emblem from the dance program at the college I went to.

  • What is the picture nearest to you of?

The girls I nanny for. Precious-ness to the max.

  • What kind of salad dressing do you like?

Oil and vinegar, with some bread dipping spices mixed in. I learned this trick from Courtney!

  • What’s your least favorite food?

Olives. Yuck.

  • What do you do on a Sunday night?

Um, absolutely nothing. I’m about to start watching Walking Dead again though!!!!!!!!!! Open-mouthed smile

  • How big is your computer display?

I don’t even know what that means. Obviously very tech-savvy.

  • What pair of shoes do you wear most often?

My Sperry’s and my Tom’s equally I would have to say.

  • What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Mashed potatoes! Mmmmmm. I wish I could eat these every day. I probably will when I finally get my own place. Uh oh.

  • What is your favorite pizza topping?

Just cheese. And extra tomatoes. I like a lot of sauce and only a little bit of cheese on my pizza. And I like it super thin and crispy.

  • What time do you plan on waking up tomorrow?

6:00 a.m., like every other day. Yuck.

  • What is your favorite day of the year?

That’s actually a really good question. I would have to say that it varies every year and that I probably don’t decide until the end of the year.

And now I just need to share this picture with you to start off your Tuesday:

teacup pig

Has anyone ever seen the teacup pig episode of HIMYM?! I need one. Immediately. If anyone is looking for something to get me for Valentine’s Day…*cough cough LUKE cough cough*

Answer any question above you want and submit one for me pleeease! Smile

Some Wisdom on a Monday Morning

Even though Mondays kinda suck, it’s always nice to have a fresh start to the week. I’m a big fan of lists and keeping track of what I need to get done, so I don’t get overwhelmed. I literally write everything down. For example, here’s my to-do list for today (oh, and I also work for 10 hours today):

  • stretch
  • workout (60 minutes cardio, 20 minute Tone It Up strength routine)

  • blog 2x
  • work on PT training plans
  • watch Ellen, The Bachelor, Biggest Loser, and HIMYM (yeah, Mondays are definitely my big TV night)
  • pack gym bag for Tuesday

I know I can definitely get everything done (because it’s pretty much the same thing I do every Monday), but I always have this little nagging in the back of my mind telling me I won’t. I know it’s no big deal at ALL if I don’t (like, please; I can always watch my shows tomorrow), but I just love checking things off and seeing my list get smaller. I have an agenda I got from Target and on Sundays I fill it out for each day of the upcoming week. It looks really overwhelming on Monday, but by Friday I love seeing everything I’ve accomplished. Sounds silly, but it works for me.

PS. Did anyone else see the Superbowl commercial last night about HIMYM tonight? Robin Sparkles FOUR?!?!?!?! So freaking pumped.

“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life waiting for us.” –Joseph Campbell

Think about that today Smile

What’s your favorite day of the week and why?

Something Out of the Ordinary

Happy MLK Day! Did anyone else catch any of the inauguration ceremony?! I don’t know how you couldn’t….it was literally on for 12+ hours. I watched pieces here and there and was honestly very impressed by the whole Obama family. Michelle is just stunning, the daughters seem mature beyond their years (yet fun and adorable!), and Obama just looked so chill and happy. Yeah, you can tell I’m obviously very into politics :p

So I guess you could say that I had a much different day than how my Mondays usually go.

For one, I didn’t work! Usually I get to spend my Mondays with these sweet little ones, but I wasn’t needed to go watch them today.

Since I had the morning free, I chose to do an intense workout since I knew I would be indulging later in the day. Here’s a rundown of what I did:

- Tone It Up “wild child” workout
- Tone It Up “she sells seashells” workout
- 1/2 hr. of intervals on treadmill (1 min./7.6, 2 min./4.4, all at an incline of 1.0)
- 1/2 hr. walking on treaadmill (4.4 at an incline of 4.0)

I was exhausted when it was all over!

The afternoon consisted of ice skating for my little sister’s 10th birthday party. Now let me just go ahead and say that ice skating is an intense leg workout! My legs felt like lead when we were done, and my ankles were literally locked. My goodness! Luke grew up playing hockey so it’s like, no big deal for him to flail all around the ice when I look like a fool going as slow as I possibly can with my feet super close together and my knees bent.

Now comes the fun part. Luke had a coupon for a Mexican restaurant called Rojo that we love. It was buy any entree, get one free as long as you buy two drinks. Like, oh please; TWIST MY ARM. Make me buy a margarita. Alriiiiiiight :p

Don’t judge when you see our table. I swear it was super small and it looks like we have enough food to feed a small army. Okay, maybe we do. But Luke took a bunch of it home to have at work tomorrow if that counts for anything.

We started out with some drinks and fresh chips and salsa. You guys. The chips were literally still warm. I was in heaven. And the salsa was delicious, but a bit too spicy for me even though it was mild. I’m a baby :(

For an appetizer we got tableside guacamole (they make it right in front of you!) which was fantastic and a bit spicy as well. For my entree I got their chopped salad, which just had a little bit of everything in it:

- romaine lettuce
- black beans
- red onions
- diced tomatoes
- feta cheese
- some weird Mexican cheese I pushed to the side
- hearts of palm
- green peppers

I got it with no olives and the dressing on the side, which I actually only ended up tasting. The salad didn’t even need it!

So freaking delicous.

Now that I’m pleasantly stuffed, it’s time to watch HIMYM, The Bachelor, and Biggest Loser. And probably have some Cabernet….who am I kidding.

Did you do anything new today?

Funny, Yet Sucky

Alright, I’m about to go on a bit of a rant.

I told myself last night that this week was going to be a total “clean eating week.” Wanna know how I started off? PERFECT.

- greek yogurt with banana, almonds, and oats
- kashi bar and apple
- panera garden vegetable soup
- celery and carrot sticks
- whole wheat angel hair pasta with broccoli, carrots, feta, and balsamic

Sounds perfect, right? Wrong. Because you want to know what ended up happening mid-afternoon? The girls I nanny for wanted to make cookies. That’s what happened. Wanna take a wild guess who ended up eating way too much cookie dough? This girl right here. Wanna know who may or may not have also eaten 2 cookies (they were small :p)? Me. That’s right. I didn’t feel bad after, but I feel so unbelievably sick right now that I cannot even explain it. I totally know that’s why, because when I even think about that little episode I get nauseous (spelling?).

I guess my lesson learned is quite humorous, because as I was telling the girls not to eat the cookie dough, I was stuffing my face with it. I was telling them, “You’re gonna get a bellyache!” as I was completely contradicting myself. In other words, do what I say, not what I do. Great quote.

So this sucks! Apparentely my body rejects sugar. I always kinda knew that, but this experiment was a great one to confirm my theory. I’ve never had a day (that I can remember) where I ate completely clean and one particular thing ruined my appetite….and stomach! I’m queasy just thinking about sugar. Like, I cannot even stand the thought of it. Maybe this episode will be good for me. Maybe I’ll remember this feeling next time and be like, “Allison. Dude. Quit it. Have a carrot.” Probably not, but a girl can dream, right?

All I want to do right now is make myself a big bowl of fruit and some whole wheat crackers to go along with my marathon night of The Bachelor + Biggest Loser + How I Met Your Mother. Some Cabernet may make its’ way into the mix as well….never said I was perfect.

I truly apologize for the depressing post and lack of pictures. Tomorrow is a new day<3

Any foods that completely turn you off? Also, are you as sick of Tierra on The Bachelor as I am?!?! Grrrrrrr.
