We’re happy, free, confused, & lonely at the same time.

I have come to a conclusion. I am obsessed with my friends. I haven’t really had the opportunity to see a lot of people lately, but it was so nice yesterday to have the day off and catch up with some of my lovely friends.

That morning I went to yoga with Erica. I’ll be honest, any time we were laying on the floor I just about fell asleep. I haven’t really been able to sleep lately and have just been exhausted 24/7. I really wish I could have used that hour as naptime, but that would not have been very polite unfortunately. It was an awesome class though!

Then we went to her house to make some protein pancakes, which were actually more like cookies, but I was not mad. We used the Tone It Up “perfect fit protein” and added oats into the batter, which literally made it like cookie dough. I wish I was typing this on my iPhone and could put a thumbs up there. The only thing that would have been better is if we had mimosas. Darn.

After that I went to Whole Foods to meet Sarah for lunch. We got the salad bar and I think I got sweet potato quinoa, cucumber/tomato/onion salad, lemon marinated kale/pepper salad, and a bunch of raw veggies. I got a strawberry serenity kombucha, too. Then we wandered around forever just talking and looking at all the things we can’t afford.

I guess that wasn’t enough venting, because we then proceeded to power walk around the outdoor mall for a half hour and complain some more about life. Good thing we have each other to get all the crap out to, because otherwise I feel like nobody would like me in life because I would be telling complete strangers all my problems.

Next I went downtown with Caterina for a business meeting/vent session round two. We started off at an organic coffee/tea shop where I got the cutest little pot of green tea with ginger and mint in the whole wide world. I almost stole it. We also saw a little car accident out the window, which broke my heart for those people, because now their day is ruined. I wanted to run out and give them both a hug, but I didn’t because that would be creepy.

Because drinks certainly weren’t enough, we walked over to a little self-serve frozen yogurt place. I got key lime yogurt with a ton of random fruit. So freaking good. Made me want to go to Florida and get some pie. And then out THAT window, we saw a couple getting engagement pictures taken! Best people watching day ever.

Then I had a nice little 40 minute drive by myself to ANOTHER nearby town to get dinner/drinks with one of my best friends from college, Alicia, that I used to work with. Our waitress was the cutest and let me try a bunch of the beers first, because I am just about the most indecisive person in the world and cannot commit to anything for more than 5 minutes. I ended up getting this spicy, wheat-ish beer I think. Not sure at all, but it was yummy. And we got pizza and fries and apple pie. I swear I work in health and fitness.

I had an absolute blast today. I was reminded how much I love seeing my girlfriends and how I need to get out more. But now back to reality today when I nanny 8-5 and train right after. At least I love what I do!

If you had one day off and could do anything in the whole world, what would you do?

Spice Up Your Life, Week 5

Last week I talked about conquering a fear. I was planning on running 6 miles without stopping. Did that happen? No. No way. Instead I ran 3 miles twice with a break in the middle for about 10 minutes of strength training. So I suppose I didn’t exactly succeed with that one, but I certainly pushed myself out of my comfort zone and did something I was terrified of. I really dislike running, but I want to love it. I don’t want to look like a dying animal after 2 miles anymore. I actually quite enjoy it outside, but don’t live in an area where it’s easy to do that. Frustration up the max.

I did have something really scary happen this week that I got through, so thank goodness for that. I tend to get myself worked up over things for nothing; definitely need to work on that!

Goal for this week:

53. Tell Someone to Screw Off.

Well that’s not very nice, now is it?! I do think it’s essential once in a while (okay, at least once a day) though. I guess what I think ya’ll should do this week is to do what YOU want. Not what you think you should or what others think you should, but what you feel deep down in your heart is right for you in that moment. We get too caught up in “society” and the norms that we forget about what is really important to us.

So I challenge you to say no. I have a huge problem with that, so this week is gonna be difficult for me. Any time anyone tries to make plans with me, I say yes. I make time. I make time for anything and everything and leave no time for myself. So if someone asks me to go to coffee and all I really want is to stay home and watch the season finale of The Bachelor? No. If I’m asked to babysit and I already had plans that I don’t want to cancel? No. If I’m “supposed” to run my errands, get my cleaning done, and play catch-up and all I really want is to take a nap? No. I’m exhausting myself and I know it.

We need to all work on not being so nice! I know that sounds terrible, but it’s true. I have been listening to the Jillian Michaels podcasts continuously since I discovered them. She stresses in every single one to find the underlying problem that is causing you discomfort or unhappiness and get rid of it. Nip the problem in the source and fix it right there, rather than trying to take baby steps to figure out what’s bugging you. No. You know what the issues is. We usually just don’t want to admit it. She stresses to want to change. You have to have a reason for what you’re doing (or not doing) to succeed. I swear, I am in love with that woman. She’s brilliant. She says stuff we all already know, but never think of in a moment of conflict.

Okay, so this has turned into a total rant. Oops. Back to the challenge: telling someone no. Here’s what I’m going to do this week:

  • not making conversation just for the sake of making conversation and ending up being really awkward
  • no commitments other than what is already on my calendar for the week
  • giving myself 2 full hours to call potential PT clients
  • spending at least one night with Luke with no technology

I need to learn to say no in like, every aspect of my life. I feel like a child!

On a random note, I got the Whole Foods salad bar TWICE this week. I am so darn happy about that lil fact right there. However, my wallet is not. Oh well. I want to live inside Whole Foods and people watch and drink their wine all day long please.

On another random note, I had a lemon Chobani for the first time yesterday. My new favorite flavor, by far. Even better when you add banana, berries, and roasted flaxseed. Yum yum yum.

lemon cho

On an even more random note, this is totally me this week.

Kay bye! <3

Are you going to tell someone no this week?!

There’s a bunch of random things going on in my life right now. This post is about to be a dump of quite a few of them, so bear with me and my scattered brain. I have just been running from one place to the next all week; I feel like I never leave myself enough time! All these thoughts and ideas pile up in my head and I never have time to tell ya’ll about them, until now.

Diet Bet

I signed up for the March round of DietBet through Fitfluential!

FitFluential March DietBet

Not so much because I want to lose weight, but because I know I have a couple pounds to get rid of, and let’s be real: who isn’t motivated by money? As I’ve talked about in the recent past, I’ve gotten into this habit of eating a lot of little kid food while I’m nannying, and if I have a reason to not (getting some extra cash!) then I most likely won’t. The bet requires you to lose 4% of your body weight, which is only like 5 pounds for me. It will undoubtedly make me feel better about myself, so why not? I’m sure some of you don’t agree with this, but that’s okay.

Bikini Competition

Remember when I posted about this? Well, I still want to do it, but I may just have a better idea now. I “met” a local blogger Caterina, who found me a website all about fitness competitions in Michigan. I was thinking about possibly working towards the one on July 13, 2013. It is VERY near my house and right around time the other one in Florida is (June 28). Thoughts? Suggestions? Help me out here!

Personal Training Ideas

I have had a lot of time to think about what I want to do with my future career, small and large scale goals. I just haven’t had time to really act on them yet. Once my schedule is switched up in April I will hopefully have all the time in the world (almost!) I want to focus on my health and fitness career. Here’s what I want to accomplish within the next year:

  • Write up package-deal programs with set prices and rules. I’m very laid-back with my training style, and I need to start making some money off of it! Although I do wish I could do it for free.
  • Start up some group-training style classes. I really like working with more than one person at a time and am not getting certified to teach full on group-fitness classes until I’m more stable in my career. It’s a better deal for people to train with friends/family anyway!
  • Get out some marketing! I have some pretty sweet business cards made up already, but I need to get some social media stuff out and start targeting Michigan, specifically the area I live in. I need a full day to just park my butt at Starbucks and develop a bunch of stuff.
  • Be at the gym more often. The more people see me and are used to me, the more inclined they are to want to work with me! I want to show the current members of the gym that I know what I’m doing and the new members that they want to hang out with me Smile with tongue out

Has anyone ever heard of influenster?

It is seriously such a cool invention. Basically a website that allows select people to join, review products, and have the opportunity to get stuff sent to your house to review! That is a very brief overview; there is much more involved. It allows people involved in social media to voice their opinions and help others in the community learn about current happenings and products. I think it’s super cool and was so honored to get an e-mail telling me they wanted me involved in the health and fitness portion! Definitely check it out.

Foodie Pen Pals

I’m sure that you have all heard of Foodie Pen Pals (developed by Lindsay) by now. I’ve always heard great things about it and finally got the courage to sign up this month! The box shopping will probably be the most fun part for me, but I’m also super excited to meet some new bloggers. Tomorrow afternoon/evening will hopefully be devoted to putting together my box to send out. Fingers crossed that I actually get it done and don’t get sidetracked like I usually do!

Alright, so if you read my blog at all you know that my work life is crazy. Here’s previous jobs I’ve held:

  • hostess at Red Robin

  • sales associate at Glamour Shots (LOL); with the occasional photo-shoot

  • office assistant at the board office for the school district in my area
  • dispatcher at my college police department
  • research collector/analyzer at the airport
  • gallery host/sales team member at a hotel
  • and now, a nanny and personal trainer

All over the place, right? Don’t get me wrong; I absolutely LOVE what I do. I love my girls like they’re my own and training gives me such a sense of accomplishment. However, the all over the place days/times are really messing with my mental health. I need consistency. I definitely want to stick with the health/fitness atmosphere. I had an opportunity not long ago to be a sales manager/program development leader at a large health club chain (don’t want to say which one yet), but couldn’t accept the offer because of my current commitments. That was really hard for me to say no. However, I still have the contact information of the human resources manager I was working with and am planning on getting back in contact with him towards the end of the month. This would incorporate my passion (health) and my skills/degree (hospitality), so it really would be the best of both worlds. However, I still want at least one day to babysit and plenty of time to work with my individual clients. Help me; how do I incorporate it all?!

Alright, ever since Luke got me my Keurig for Valentine’s Day, my coffee obsession has become ridiculous. I drink so much that I get jittery, but in a good way. I know that caffeine doesn’t affect some people, but I notice a significant change in my mood, attitude, and productivity levels when I drink coffee in the morning vs. when I don’t. For example, since I’ve been completing early-morning workouts this week (making my life so much easier by the way!), I haven’t been making coffee in the morning. My first calories for the day come in the form of a protein shake after my workout, and it’s just not the same. I’m definitely looking forward to having a little bit of extra time this morning to drink my tiramisu coffee in bed and read blogs before heading off to the gym.

Jillian Michaels Podcast

Friends. I think this may be the coolest and best thing I’ve discovered in a long time. As you know from my dream the other night, I’m kind of obsessed with Jillian. I have had multiple referrals for her podcasts before, but have never remembered to download them until a few days ago. Yesterday morning at the gym I ran 2.5 miles in what seemed like 5 minutes listening to her talk. If you know me at all, you know that my runs always drag on like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Not this time! I was laughing like a fool and smiling the whole time on the treadmill. People probably thought I was nuts at 6 a.m. I don’t even care. She makes me so darn happy and motivates me to keep going when I want to stop. Please give her a shot if you’re struggling in your workouts, life, eating goals, ANYTHING. She rocks.

I think that’s all for now! I’m sure I will think of more, so look for that tomorrow. Here’s a few instagram pictures of delicious foods I had yesterday to end with:

wf salad

Whole Foods salad bar!

cb bar

Well, officially the most delicious thing I’ve ever had. Dark chocolate filled with cookie butter. I need a case of these. I INHALED that in about 1 minute. No joke.

Give me some interesting news about your life!!

Grocery Goodies and New Clothes!

Today’s been good.

A yogurt bowl for breakfast with strawberry Chobani, banana, strawberries, Kind blueberry vanilla cluster granola, and TJ’s roasted golden flaxseeds.

Followed by a 6 mile run at the gym with a couple of walk breaks in about an hour. That’s crazy for me, don’t laugh.

Lunch was this same from the other day, along with a cut up apple and some TJ’s cookie butter (it’s back finally!).

So here’s all the goods I got yesterday!

Unsweetened almond milk

Whole-grain sandwich thins

Kombucha and chocolate coconut water

Veggie burgers

My new favorite granola, Kind blueberry vanilla clusters

Larabars and a Whole Foods fruit and nut bar (AMAZING)

Cookie butter (yay!) and PB2, which I am beyond excited to try

And yes, I portion out my granola and trail mix into individual bags, because I have no self-control at all.

I’m looking forward to actually having food in my house again that I enjoy and that makes me feel good!

Now onto the new clothes!

First of all, I actually got these running capris from Aerie of all places! I got them for 40% off and they ended up being only $12! I used them today and I love them.

I love the waistband and the fun little green designs on the side.

These next two pieces I got from the Champion line at Target! Super comfy and leave lots of room to breathe.

Overall, I got some really good deals this weekend and actually bought a lot of things that I truly needed and didn’t really stray from my list. So yay for that!

Luke and I are off to watch some old family home movies, cook a good dinner, and possibly (hopefully) go get some frozen yogurt later :p

Did you buy anything cool this weekend?

The Ideal Saturday

Would you’ve ever guessed that I would wake up this morning feeling completely back to normal and craving a workout? No? Me either. I was ecstatic when my alarm went off this morning and I was honestly excited to get up and felt almost back to normal. It’s crazy what a rest day and just taking care of yourself will do. My sister slept with me last night (because she had a bad dream, aw) and woke me up about 7:30 with a big hug and a mug of coffee. Best way ever to wake up if you ask me.

I did this workout from the Tone It Up girls before going to yoga with my mom for an hour.

I really love that Karena and Katrina are always coming up with new workouts and that each one is more fun than the last. Now that I’m a personal trainer I need to work on a technique that’s original and keeps my clients coming back for more!

After I had showered and had protein pancakes with strawberries and more coffee for breakfast, I actually had to head to a local gym to train my first client! He was really hesitant about the workout and really underestimated his ability, which was quite frustrating. I had to be a bit rough with him, but he had a much better attitude by the end of our session and had a better grasp on his capabilities. Woo!

Guys. I did something ridiculously exciting after that. I got Luke to go to Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s with me. And we even ate lunch at Whole Foods!

I got a ton of stuff: Meditteranean chickpea salad, quinoa with tomatoes, lemon marinated kale with peppers, plain chopped kale, cucumbers, tomatoes, chopped carrots, and balsamic on the side.

With my favorite mango kombucha :) Left me feeling amazing with tons of energy all afternoon.

Luke got a piece of pizza and this pasta salad with huge chunks of garlic. Check that out!

I’ll have a post for you tomorrow with all the goods :)

We headed to a ‘fire and ice’ festival in a nearby town after that, then hit up the mall and Target and got some more great purchases! I got a sweet new outfit for the gym which I’ll also do a review of tomorrow.

We had dinner at a local Italian restaurant where I indulged in fresh bread, minestrone soup, Caesar salad, and plenty of Merlot. We’re both trying to watch our sugar intake, so no dessert for us!

Tonight will be filled with watching lots and lots of Friends. Yeah, we’re super cool and not lame at all on a Saturday night ;) I actually really hate when people think others are ‘lame’ for staying home on the weekend. Most of us are gone working all week long! Yes, some like to unwind by going to the bar and partying, but then there’s us that like to take off our pants, drink some adult beverages, and watch trashy TV. Leave me be.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night?
