How was your weekend?

Lucky for most of us that we don’t work today and get an even longer weekend! I would be good with working approximately 1.3 days a week and just playing the rest; that would be fine. This weekend made me super excited that it’s almost summertime. I mean technically since I have a real person job now and I’m not in school anymore there’s no break like there used to be, but I just think people are happier when the weather is nicer, myself included. These are definitely my favorite summer things:

  • bonfires, which absolutely includes roasting marshmallows and drinking beer
  • going swimming in my pool, which means laying on a raft and taking a nap
  • riding bikes and walking instead of driving
  • going on little mini trips to cute beach-y towns
  • being able to sleep with my window open
  • eating dinner outside
  • going barefoot; I really, really hate shoes
  • going out for ice cream
  • watermelon.

Now if only Michigan would cooperate and stop having freeze warnings at night.

I did so many random things this weekend, so here’s all my professionally taken photographs for your enjoyment.

This delicious thing from my favorite Starbucks girl ever. She’s super cute. It’s something called a lime refresher or something like that and it is wonderful. Only vodka could make it better. But when you are trying on approximately 462 bathing suits at Victoria’s Secret, you may need 5 of these drinks because I drink them in 2.2 sips. That was a lot of numbers right there; wow.

All my new purchases! I think in that pile there’s a bunch of body lotion stuff from Lush, clothes from Forever 21, bikini and dress from Victoria’s Secret, Bath and Body Works candles, and probably other random things that I already forgot about and obviously don’t need.

I had this delicious sake that tastes like champagne and flowers and sunshine. And some wine. Whoops.

I also tried sushi for the first time. It had asparagus, avocado, and cucumber. It was good, but nothing I could eat a lot of. It’s really good dipped in their fancy sauces. I thought it would be good dipped in ranch, but apparently hibachi houses don’t carry that. Rude.

And then since I am a crazy, old cat lady at the ripe age of 21, here’s a picture of my cat laying on my dress. Fascinating, yeah?

SELFIE. Oh my goodness, I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.

Put this together and started to plan stuff for my next fitness challenge. Now I just need to concentrate a little bit and actually put some of my ideas on paper. “GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER CAROL.” Major points for you if you can tell me what movie that quote is from.

I went to a farmer’s market with momma, and we got these phenomenal little puffs of heaven. Actually they’re scones. And one is cinnamon chip and one is raspberry white chocolate I think, but who care because THEY ARE SO GOOD. That’s all.

I think I listened to the song Boys Round Here by Blake Shelton about a million times over the past 3 days.

My little sister’s friend did my hair SO cute. My hair is either curly and wild or straight as a board in a ponytail, so this is big for me. I want her to come over every morning and make my hair look super cute.

Being a completely typical girl and taking a picture before I go out. Don’t judge me. Actually you can. I already judged myself a long time for this.

And when I got home at 2:30 in the morning, this is what was waiting on my bed to greet me. She literally just sits there like a human and waits for me to get home. It’s quite adorable.

My super cute friend with really good hair and I in our matching leather jackets (:

And I really just wanted to share this with you because it is hilarious.

Send me your favorite YouTube video!

The most adventures I’ve had in a long time.

Hello! First of all, I just want to thank you all for leaving such sweet comments on my post from yesterday. A lot of you have been saying you admire my positive attitude, which totally makes my day, because I feel like I am negative a lot of the time! So thanks for making me smile and changing my own attitude about myself Smile

Yesterday Audrey and I went to a small town called Petosky in Michigan. It is super small and right on the water and absolutely adorable. We went with my great-grandma and my great-aunt and had an absolute blast.

We may or may not have stopped at a winery while we were walking around and did a tasting at 11 a.m. Oops. I also bought a super cute ring and some mother’s day presents.

Then we went to the most delicious little restaurant ever called Whitecaps for lunch. I got an apple panini, which had “granny smith apples, gorgonzola cheese, apple butter, spinach, and caramelized onions.” Uh, best thing ever. And stealing some of the beer-battered fries from my grandma was a great idea as well.

I kid you not, Audrey and I were exhausted after our little 5-hour day trip! We have been so used to just laying around for days and doing things on our own time that it was different to actually have plans and do something real. We spent the rest of the day laying around the house and catching up on our TV shows.

Here’s something else we’ve been up to:

What an exhilarating life I lead. Our plan is to start up a YouTube channel with us going through our bucket list, in hopes that Ellen will help us out with the ones that involve her! And we basically just want to be like Jenna Marbles and work from home, but do it in California while I am working for Ellen. Solid plan.

I will say that one of my favorite things about being up north is going for a run in the morning. It is so silent that it seems like I am the only person in the world. I haven’t even used my headphones the last few days! Seeing deer and bunnies on my run is much more enjoyable than getting exhaust blown in my face from cars on the highway like at home. I also like having time during the day to get everything done without having to be rushed; keeps the stress levels down like crazy! However, it is really hard for me to sleep here since I am not used to the area, so I’ve been constantly exhausted, but that’s okay! I have coffee and wine to get me through Smile with tongue out

We only have today and then head out in the morning, so we’re off to enjoy the beautiful weather, see some family, and just chill for one last day <3

Last thing. Have you ever had this delicious creation? If not, you must do so immediately.

What gets you through the day when you are exhausted?

365 Happiness Challenge

Oh hey friends! It feels like I haven’t written a normal post in just about forever, so I’m excited to get back to you all Smile I suppose I have quite a bit to catch you up on!

I spent this weekend playing catch-up. I spent some much needed time with Luke and some of my friends/family that I haven’t seen in a while. I did some awesomely intense workouts, including two 5-mile runs. I worked on my personal training business, contacting new clients and working on plans for my old ones. I developed some new ideas for ways to work for Ellen and make the world a happier place in the process. I made some new to-do lists and crossed off items on my old ones. I cleaned. I did laundry. And I feel so great today for getting all that done before I leave for my trip on Thursday!

Now lets talk about what I will most likely be talking about quite a bit for the next year. I decided to start something called the “365 Happiness Challenge.” This video describes what it is and why I decided to do it:

Long story short, something cool happened the other day and I decided that I want to focus on those little things from now on to not only bring happiness to my life, but to the lives of many others. This cool shirt also happened from my friend Tara.

Instead of having a pity party for myself that I’m not exactly where I would like to be in my life, why not make the best of it? I heard the other day that things fall into place when you are happy with yourself and not expecting it. It’s like the expression, “A watched phone never rings.” Truth! If I am waiting around for a phone call from Ellen or for Jeannie to knock on my door, it will not happen. I need to work on bettering my own life and striving to be the best version of myself I can be. I need to help others and be kind. I need to work hard, yet have fun. And then when things are going good, even greater things can happen!

“You’ve got to do what you love.”

You know what I love? Being happy. Watching Ellen. Drinking coffee. Running outside. Listening to stories from old people. Traveling. Learning a fun new fact. Seeing a good friend. No traffic. Babies. Good wine. Making someone smile. Making someone laugh. A clean house. These are all tiny, tiny things! I am not hard to please. I need to remember to appreciate the small things and take life one step at a time, and everything else will fall into place.

Sure, I have some big goals for my life, but why not appreciate the small stuff along the way? Jillian Michaels says to not live the “monkey-bar style” of life. Don’t necessarily jump from one thing to the next, simply because it is there. It is okay to take some time off from your job because you are not happy with it and want to focus on finding what you love. It is okay to take a mini-vacation on your own to relieve some stress. It is okay to go away from the norm, simply because you want to! It is okay to work your ass off for a goal (*cough* working for Ellen *cough*) that no one else supports. It is okay to do what makes you happy even though it isn’t “normal.” Just be nice and the rest will happen naturally.

So where can you find information and posts about my happiness challenge?

Have a fantastic Monday!

What is a little, bitty good thing in your life today?

Um, I am super excited.

TO TELL YOU THAT I GOT AN IPHONE 5 ON SATURDAY WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! After my phone broke last Monday, I told my dad and anticipated that it would be at least a month before we upgraded our plan, but he totally came through and got the new phones in less than a week. When you previous had a vintage sliding Sprint phone with a touch-screen that didn’t work, an iPhone is like, the coolest thing in the world to get. And lucky me, I was at a dance competition all day so I had loads of entertainment.

Want to know a super embarrassing story though? So we got the phones on Saturday and the wonderful man at the store told my dad that we had to run the battery on the phones completely down and then charge it 100% and that should help save the battery. So I did what I was told and let my phone die, and then plugged it in when I went to bed Saturday night (or so I thought). I woke up Sunday morning and it was still dead. Rude. So I totally thought I had a bad charger because I tried it with my iPad charger little box thing, in a different socket, AND in my laptop. Nothing. I was so frustrated, but had to go to the competition again, so I just threw it in my bag and decided I would go to Apple as soon as it opened. At the competition I was asking everyone with Apple products for help, and one of my little sister’s friends let me use her charger to see if it worked. It did! Then I was taught that I (get ready) was not pushing the charger in all the way. What is wrong with me?! I swear I have a Bachelor’s degree….

The rest of my weekend consisted on watching a lot (like a million) of dances. I started to go a little bit crazy I think. I also read a ton of my book. I’m currently reading Portia de Rossi’s book Unbearable Lightness, and I swear that I love it more and more every time I read it. Have you ever heard of it? I will do a review on it later this week after I finish it again, because it is more than worth it.

I also did a bunch of the Tone It Up workouts over the weekend and ate a lot of delicious pizza. It all balances out. Oh, and wine. Maybe that doesn’t balance out, but that’s okay.

Maybe if I actually write out on here what I want to accomplish this week, I will actually do it:

  • Work out every day and not decide to go home and watch the Kardashians instead, which I literally just decided to get into
  • Make a new YouTube video to send to Ellen; I made this one over the weekend, LOL
  • Actually call some of the people that are on my list to see if they want to get into personal training
  • Work on editing the pages on my blog
  • Research more jobs/places to live in California

Extensive, right? Just kidding. But truthfully, I am so much more likely to do something if it is written down. I tend to get distracted very easily, which I’m sure you know by now. Now I’m off to do something super exciting and watch Married to Jonas before I go to bed. What an exhilarating Sunday night! Look for lots more pictures now that I HAVE AN IPHONE! Open-mouthed smile

What was the coolest thing that happened to you this weekend?

Consistency & the little things.

I went to yoga this morning for the first time in a long time. Sure, I do routines in my room each morning, but it’s just not the same. When I’m doing yoga at home, I typically get distracted by every little thing and check my twitter every 2 minutes. I can’t do that in a studio, because I feel the instructor would be very offended if I whipped out my phone or sat down for 5 minutes because I was tired. Going to the studio forces me to actually pay attention and concentrate, which is really good for me since I won’t do it on my own. If I was a celebrity and could afford my own personal teacher at my house every morning, that would be ideal. Yes, that is what needs to happen.

Anyway, moving on. The teacher was talking about setting your intentions on specific things and talking positively to yourself. She kept talking about thinking positively because, “If you think you can, you will. If you think you can’t, you won’t.” That is completely true. I have fallen into this pattern of just going through the typical routine of my day and doing the same thing over and over. If I want to move to California and work for Ellen, am I going to do that by watching Jenna Marbles videos (which are actually very true) and drinking wine? I WISH. But no. Goodness, even Jenna Marbles didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life, made a sweet YouTube video, and is now making an insane amount of money doing something fun that she loves. That is freaking cool. You always hear stories of people making their dreams come true by hard work and dedication. It really does work.

I am also reading a book called The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. He keeps stressing the fact that if you can just take a series of small steps consistently over time, huge things will happen. That gives me hope, because I get in this mindset that I’ll be stuck in Michigan forever. Um, no thank you. SO, since I really like lists, here are my little steps I’m going to take to work for Ellen every single freaking opportunity I can until it happens:

  1. Make a YouTube video every week showing me spreading kindness or doing something funny/uplifting in the area.
  2. Continue to write these blog posts and tweet them to her.
  3. Try to talk to a local news or radio station and see if they can help.
  4. Save money so I can actually move to LA if the opportunity arises and not be poor and live in a box.
  5. Talk to people & have them help me spread the word!

There’s probably a million more things, but I’m getting really serious and tacky and annoying and I don’t like it. I mailed my scrapbook to her yesterday and totally forgot to take a picture of it; boo. I wish I had, because it was pretty darn funny. I really don’t care how ridiculous I seem to people, because Ellen is awesome and I know I would be happy working there. The end.

Not really the end, because I have something else to say. I am going to be at my sister’s dance competition all weekend and by all weekend, I mean all weekend. 20ish hours of dancing. Oh my goodness. I need entertainment/ideas to make me not go crazy. Yes, I’ve already thought of alcohol so don’t say that one. Ready set go! <3

Becoming a BeachBody Coach!

Unexpectedly, I got a night in last night. I desperately needed it! I did not even come close to realizing how many things I had to get done. Luckily I was able to make a to-do list and check off everything except 2 things which I will finish up today. Score! I also managed to have time to make a little vlog to recap what I’ve been up to lately.

Andddd, some bullet points to recap it all:

  • I became a BeachBody coach! I’m starting a challenge group within the next week. I would love to get some of you guys involved, so just let me know in the comments if it’s something you might be interested in and I will send you some more info about what it involves Smile
  • I am starting the TurboFire program and taking Shakeology tomorrow. We’ll see how this goes!
  • I have enough yoga DVD’s for the rest of my life.
  • I am super sick and lost my voice.
  • I wear really baggy clothes.
  • I suck at making videos.

The end.

Spice Up Your Life, Week 6

Hi friends! I had an amazing day yesterday. Like really freaking good. I woke up early to watch some more Tara Stiles videos on her youtube channel. Gosh, I love that woman. She makes me so happy. I just want to be her best friend, but there’s no way I’m cool enough for that. Then I was at the gym for a little while working, followed up by running a few errands, and babysitting all afternoon. Kids make me smile. Then Luke and I had a date night at Cheeseburger in Paradise, where I got a Calypso Salad, containing avocado, strawberries, pineapples, mandarin oranges, apples, honey roasted almonds, and red onion and a Skinny Margarita. The margarita was fantastic; literally tasted just like tequila and lime (just how I like it!). I may or may not have convinced Luke to split some key lime pie with me as well. We also saw The Call, which was really scary and made me never want to pump gas ever again. I am not happy about that movie; not happy at all. It broke my heart.

I do have a question for you guys. When Luke and I go to LA next month, we’re not sure if we’re going to rent a car or take cabs everywhere we go. We’ve been trying to compare prices and they’re honestly quite similar. Anyone have any suggestions on if you think it would be better to drive ourselves or get cabs? A pro of our own car would definitely be that we could drive along the coast and not have to worry about waiting for a car. A con would be that we both suck at directions and LA is confusing as it is. Thoughts, suggestions?

Last week in the Spice Up Your Life Challenge I asked you guys to say no to someone. How did it go? I have found that a common theme among many of us is that we tend to say yes to everything. I know that I am a huge people pleaser and always try to keep my promises, yet I don’t take care of or keep promises I make to myself. Gotta work on that! I did really good with the challenge this week. Here’s what I did to say no to others and make a little bit of time for myself:

  • didn’t work any hours behind the desk at the gym (not that I had time to anyway; hopefully I will next week because I actually really enjoy it!)
  • said no to my inner voice telling me not to and bought a set of Tara Stiles yoga DVD’s online
  • took my time responding to e-mails instead of feeling the need to do it immediately
  • said no to my inner voice telling me to workout and took a rest week full of simple yoga routines

Small changes, but definitely made a difference in my happiness levels. I’m hoping to continue this “free” mindset my week next week and see if things can increase even more. I’m starting to realize more and more every day how much I love yoga. I always kinda knew I was into it, but taking time for myself to relax AND work my body/mind this week was perfection. This may be a new path for me. Yoga helps me to connect to myself and make better decisions throughout my day. So yay for that!

Challenge for this week:

40. Create a sacred space.

Um, wow. What weird timing to get this goal when I’ve just been preaching about the benefits of yoga and meditation. The book describes this goal of more of a legit sacred space. I say to find somewhere you feel comfortable and develop it into a happy place where you can go whenever need be. Examples of where this could be:

  • In your car. Even though I have terrible road rage, when I don’t put any music on in my car and have my commute to just think and be alone, I am ridiculously happy. In the mornings I listen to the news, but coming home at night I usually sit in silence. It gives me a chance to reflect on myself and my day and to also just have some quiet time after being around loud people all day.
  • In your bedroom. This is where we all do the most relaxing thing ever: sleep. Your bedroom should be a place you can go to reflect, write, watch TV, relax, workout, stretch, read, ANYTHING. I do pretty much everything in my room, but that very well may be because I still live with my parents. It will be interesting to see if that changes once I move out. In my opinion, your bedroom should be your happy place. Anything goes.
  • In your mind. As long as you know how to block out the rest of the world and concentrate on yourself, all you need is your mind. I’m working on this one. I would love to be able to walk down a busy street and not be affected by others; just myself.

And here’s some ways to make that space sacred for you:

  • look forward to the time you get to spend there each day
  • fill it with things you love
  • only allow others there that benefit you!
  • associate positive thoughts with it

There are obviously many more places you could choose and ways to make it happy, but these are just the main ones I can think of right now. This week I am going to focus on transforming my mind into a place that is full of happiness for me. I’m going to try to get rid of all the negativity, worry, and rushing I feel on a regular basis and focus on relaxing, breathing, and knowing that I have complete control over my body.

Enjoy your weekend! Good luck to all the ladies running in the DC Rock N’ Roll half this weekend <3

Where is your sacred space?

Let Me Entertain You

Since I’m not really feeling up to posting a vlog today, I thought I might share some of my favorite YouTube videos with you guys. I spent many college nights (and days I suppose) watching silly videos with my roommates, simply because we had such a carefree life and nothing better to do. I discovered so many funny channels, and I figured we could all use a good laugh before starting off the week!

Tone It Up:

I’m starting off with a not-so-funny video. More like a badass video of two girls with insanely good bodies that motivates me to get off my butt when I’m feeling lazy.

Jenna Marbles:

I think we can all relate to this. Big time.

The Daily Grace:

Ignore the language. This makes me laugh SO hard. I can’t even handle it. “Raise all the roofs. Get all the roofs off.”

Cathy May:

I don’t even know. I just don’t know. This channel can provide you with hours of entertainment if you need it.

She’s so badass. And hilarious. Can I get paid to make videos for a living please?

“Awkward Kristen”

It gets funnier the more you watch it.

The Ellen Degeneres Show:

Yes, yes, YES.

Hope these gave you a good laugh! I just got done training a client at the gym, and now I’m off to see The Lion King broadway play with my family tonight. I have some kinda big news coming tomorrow….. Smile Enjoy your evening! <3

Post a link to your favorite YouTube video for us all to enjoy!
